SCOUTING THE WILDCATS: UNH begins in 36th season of play on Saturday night vs. NJIT. The Wildcats roster features 10 new players, including nine freshmen and one transfer, along with six letter winners from 2019.
Junior middle blocker Abby Sullivan (Methuen, Mass.) was an America East All-Conference Second-Team selection in 2019. Sullivan is the returning leader from 2019 with 209 kills, which ranked third on the Wildcats' roster from a season ago. Sophomore outside hitter Erin Hedrick (Montvale, N.J.) was fourth on the team her freshman year in kills (133) and blocks (50). Sophomore setter Wren MacAulay (Lake Orion, Mich.) played in all 27 matches as a freshman and ranked second on the team in assists with 409.
The Wildcats will face Hartford in the home opener on Sunday, March 7 at Lundholm Gymnasium
SCOUTING THE HIGHLANDERS: NJIT opened their season with a 3-0 loss at Hofstra on Saturday. The Pride took the first two sets 25-14 and 25-15, before clinching the match with a 25-5 third-set victory. Elley Torres and Emma Godwin led NJIT with four kills apiece, while Kyla Lannert handled the setting duties and dished out seven assists, while recording five digs. Torres, Lannert, and Kaitlyn Arias, who recorded a team-high eight digs, all made their collegiate debuts for second-year Head Coach Pedro Trevino's squad on Saturday.
SCOUTING THE GREAT DANES: UAlbany opened the season with a split against Sacred Heart last weekend. Kamara Kelly leads the Great Danes with 25 kills and 33 digs on the season, while Danielle Tedesco has also chipped in with 21 kills in two matches.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. NJIT: The Wildcats own a 2-0 all-time meeting against the Highlanders with a 3-0 win in the last meeting of the series on September 22, 2019 at SECU Arena in the Tiger Invitational. The set scores were 25-12, 25-15, 25-15. Abby Sullivan notched six kills in the match, while Hannah Crist added four block in that matchup.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. UALBANY: The Wildcats trail the all-time series vs. UAlbany, 22-25 in 47 all-time meetings. UNH has lost five of the last six meetings in the series, but won the last matchup, 3-2 in five sets on November 3, 2019 in Durham. Erin Hedrick had 12 kills in the victory for the Wildcats.
UNH PICKED FOURTH IN AE PRESEASON POLL: UNH was picked fourth for the second consecutive year, garnering 24 points in the poll. The Wildcats finished in second place in 2019 with a 7-3 record in America East play.
WILDCATS NAME BILYEU AND PATLOVICH CO-CAPTAINS: UNH second-year Head Coach Christopher Feliciano named senior setter Emma Patlovich (Lake Forest, Ill.) and junior outside hitter Kate Bilyeu (Omaha, Neb.) as co-captains for the upcoming 2021 spring season. Patlovich a team-best 542 assists last season for the Wildcats, playing in all 27 matches and 102 sets for UNH. Her 26 service aces ranked tied for third on the Wildcats' roster. She also added 151 digs, which was the fifth best total on the team. The 5-foot-11 setter was also an America East Academic Honor Roll honoree in 2017 and an America East Commissioner's Honor Roll selection in 2018. Bilyeu tallied 51 kills and 30 digs in her first season in Durham, playing in 20 matches and 54 sets. Bilyeu is also a member of the UNH Student-Athlete Advisory Committee in 2020-21 and is a two-time America East Honor Roll selection.
