Abby Sullvan earns America East All-Conference First-Team honors for the second straight season
DURHAM, N.H. -- The University of New Hampshire volleyball team took home several America East postseason awards, including junior setter Wren Macaulay (Lake Orion, Mich.) earning Setter of the Year, which was announced on Thursday morning by the conference office.
Macaulay, who was also an America East All-Conference Second-Team selection, has registered a team best 888 assists this season and her 9.3 assists per set ranks third among America East setters. Her 35 service aces this season were tied for second most among conference players. She won the AE Setter of the Week Award a league-high five times this season.
"It's a tremendous accomplishment for Wren to have received Setter of the Year," said UNH head coach Christopher Feliciano. "It goes without saying that she plays a vital role on our team and our success.  With the improvement of the players surrounding her she has been able to shine in critical moments offensively. She has the ability to create one on one situations at the net, identifying mismatches in opposing team's defenses."
Senior middle blocker Abby Sullivan (Methuen, Mass.) was named an America East All-Conference honoree for the third consecutive season, including her second straight year as a First-Team member. Sullivan leads America East with a .346 hitting percentage and her 206 kills lead the Wildcats' roster. Her 70 blocks rank second on the UNH roster.
"Abby has gone from being extremely athletic to becoming one of the most decorated players in the history of New Hampshire Volleyball," mentioned Feliciano. "I couldn't be more proud of an individual. She truly is a continuous learner, always thriving to improve and constantly sets an example of accountability."
Sophomore middle blocker Kelly Kaufmann (Raleigh, N.C.) was also a America East All-Conference Second-Team honoree and was the lone Wildcat named to the America East All-Academic Team for her efforts in the classroom with a 4.0 GPA as a Exercise Science major. Her 179 kills rank second on UNH's roster and her .275 hitting percentage ranks sixth best among America East hitters.
"Kelly's improvement this year has been nothing short of remarkable," stated Feliciano. "Coming into preseason we wanted her to be more aggressive both offensively and defensively. We've reached a point now where it feels like she's a floor general at the net, moving people into position.  We still think that we haven't reached her ceiling, we are excited to see what the future holds."
Freshman right side hitter Marisa Armer (Bradenton, Fla.) was named to the America East All-Rookie Team for her efforts in her freshman season. She ranked fourth on the team with 140 kills, as she registered four matches with 10 or more kills.
"I believe that this is just the start for Marisa,"Â said Feliciano. "When I recruited her I wanted to bring in a right side that could change the game defensively. Â Throughout the course of the year she has held opposing outside hitters to an average of .150 attack percentage. Â It goes without saying that her impact has been instrumental to our success."
The No. 3 seeded Wildcats (16-11 overall, 7-5 AE) return to action on Friday, November 19 against No. 2 seed UAlbany in the America East semifinals. Match time from the UMBC Event Center is 7 p.m. on AmericaEast.tv.
