Two-time All-American inks deal through the remainder of the 2020 season.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – 2020 University of New Hampshire graduate Josh Bauer (Bedford, N.H.) has signed a contract with Birmingham Legion FC of the United Soccer League Championship. The USL Championship is one division below Major League Soccer (MLS). The deal will go through the remainder of the 2020 season.
Bauer concluded his historic career at UNH in 2019 as he was the first player in program history to be named a first team All-American. He was also a second team All-American in 2018. Bauer was the first player in school history to be a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy which is given to the most outstanding player in college soccer.
Bauer was named the America East Tournament MVP for the second consecutive year in 2019 as he is only the second player in league history to win the award twice. This past season, he was one of only three student-athletes around the nation to earn first team All-America and first team Scholar All-America honors.

Also in 2019, Bauer earned All-Northeast Region first team honors for the second straight season, was the ECAC and America East Defender of the Year for the second straight year, was an All-America East and ECAC first team selection for the second straight year and was on the America East All-Academic Team. Bauer won the 2020 Jim Urquhart Student-Athlete of the Year Award which is the most prestigious student-athlete award at UNH.
In 2019, he had four goals and five assists for 13 points. Bauer played in 60 career games with 10 goals and 10 assists for 30 points.
Last season, the Wildcats concluded with a 15-2-3 (.825) record, posting the best winning percentage in program history and tying the school record for wins. The Wildcats won the America East Co-Regular Season championship, earning the title for only the second time in program history. Then UNH captured its second straight America East Tournament championship, qualifying for the NCAA Tournament for the third straight season. The 1-0 win over Fairleigh Dickinson in the first round was the second time in the last three years the Wildcats have won a NCAA Tournament game.
UNH only allowed 11 goals all year and posted the best team goals against average in the nation (0.528). UNH was ranked in the United Soccer Coaches Poll every week except the first week reaching a season-best No. 13 ranking. UNH concluded the year ranked No. 17 in the RPI and No. 22 by United Soccer Coaches.
The 2020 UNH season has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
