Freehling, Astle Earn Student-Athlete Spotlight Honor

DURHAM, N.H.- Senior gymnast Riley Freehling (Southington, Conn.) and senior Zachary Astle, (Newbury, N.H.) are the Service Credit Union Student-Athlete Spotlight award recipients for the week of Jan. 27-Feb. 2.
Riley, a senior from Southington, Conn., topped the leaderboard in the all-around and uneven bars, scored second on balance beam and floor exercise, and tied for third on vault to lead the University of New Hampshire gymnastics team to a season-high matching score of 195.125 in a victory over Towson on Feb. 1 at Lundholm Gym.
Riley hit for season highs in all four events and tallied a personal-best 39.200 score in all-around.
Riley began the meet on vault with a score of 9.775. She had the top score on uneven bars scoring a 9.800. Riley then scored a 9.825 on the balance beam. In the final rotation, she scored a 9.800 on floor.
Riley and the UNH gymnastics team returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 8 (7 p.m.) at Lundholm Gym against George Washington, West Virginia, and Brown. Tickets start as low as $3 by clicking here.

Zachary, a senior thrower from Newbury, N.H. won the New England title in both throwing events at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center on Feb. 1 to help lead the UNH men's track and field team finish fourth in the team standings.
He won the weight throw with a distance of 63'3.5", and set a new personal best in the shot put with his winning throw of 56'1.25". The two wins were the first New England individual championships of his career.
The Wildcats head down to Kingston, Rhode Island next Saturday, February 8 to take on the annual URI Coaches Tribute Meet. The 'Cats have just two weekends remaining until the America East Indoor Championships on February 21 and 22 in Boston, Mass.
