BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Sean Sutherlin (New Brighton, Minn.) recorded 10 points and 11 rebounds for his seventh double-double of the season, but the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team was defeated 74-50 by the University of Vermont at Patrick Gym on Wednesday night.

Sutherlin was UNH's top scorer and rebounder. Jayden Martinez (Cibolo, Texas) also netted 1o points.

UVM was led by Anthony Lamb (12 points, 13 rebounds), Ryan Davis (game-high 16 points) and Ben Shungu (12 points).

UNH is now 11-12 overall and 4-6 in America East. Vermont won its 10th consecutive game to improve to 20-6, 10-1.

FIRST HALF

* There were no ties and one lead change in the opening 20 minutes.

* Both teams started hot offensively as UVM outscored the Wildcats 21-19 in the opening 10 minutes; both teams cooled off the next 10 minutes, in which the Catamounts outscored their guests 13-9.

* Martinez hit a pair of 3-pointers to give UNH a 6-2 lead at 18:09.

* With the Wildcats leading 8-7, Nick Guadarrama (Newington, Conn.) and Sutherlin made back-to-back layups and then Mark Carbone (Wethersfield, Conn.) drilled a 3-pointer from the right corner to extend New Hampshire's advantage to 15-7.

* Trailing 17-9, UVM went on a 14-2 run to take a 23-19 lead at 9:50.

* A 3-pointer by Marque Maultsby (Raleigh, N.C.) and Guadarrama putback sandwiched a Catamount field goal to advance the score to 25-24 in favor of the home team at 8:28.

* Off an inbounds play with five seconds on the clock, Guadarrama cut down the right wing for a layup that trimmed UNH's deficit to 34-28.

SECOND HALF

* There were no ties or lead changes in the second half.

* UVM opens the second half with a three-point play and 3-pointer to build a double-digit lead, 40-28, at 17:00.

* A dunk by Josh Hopkins (Greensboro, N.C.) lifted UNH within 47-34 at 14:36, but the Catamounts responded with six consecutive points that sparked a 9-2 run that pushed the margin to 20 points, 56-36, at 10:58.

* The Wildcats did not get closer than 18 points the rest of the way.

UNH NOTEBOOK

* This marked the third time this season Sutherlin has led the team in both points and rebounds. It is the fifth time he led in scoring, and he has been the top rebounder 10 times.

* Martinez has been UNH's top scorer six times. He scored eight of his 10 points in the first half.

* Maultsby finished with a team-high three assists.

* New Hampshire made a season-low five 3-pointers on 18 attempts (27.8%). The previous season low (six) happened twice.

* UNH also matched its season low with six assists (on 18 field goals made).

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

* UVM took a 21-19 lead at 10:19 of the first half and led the rest of the way. UNH held the lead for 9 minutes, 11 seconds.

* Vermont recorded a 35-32 rebounding advantage but UNH had a 10-5 edge on the offensive glass, which led to 10-7 advantage in second chance points.

* UVM committed just nine turnovers. New Hampshire had 11.

* UVM outscored the visitors 34-26 in the paint.

* The Catamounts scored the only two fastbreak points of the game.

* UVM shot 50.9% from the floor in comparison to UNH's 32.1%.

* The Catamounts made 14 of 16 free throws. UNH was 9-for-12 at the foul line.
