Harnett Stops 26 Shots in 2-1 Loss to #8 Boston U.

DURHAM, N.H. - Nikki Harnett (Plymouth, Minn.) recorded 26 saves, but the University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team fell to No. 8 Boston University, 2-1, at the Whittemore Center on Friday night.
Tamara Thiérus (Saint-Jérôme, Quebec) cut the Terriers' lead in half with the only goal for the Wildcats when she backhanded the puck to the back of the net at 3:18 of the third period.
BU goalie Corinne Schroeder was credited with 18 saves.
The 'Cats and the Terriers meet again Dec. 5 in Durham at 5 p.m. on College SportsLive.

FIRST PERIOD SUMMARY
* Both UNH and BU had one power play opportunity in the first but did not capitalize.
· Jesse Compher tapped the puck in to give BU a 1-0 lead at 17:04 after Courtney Correia sent her a pass right in front of the crease.
· The Terriers held that one-goal lead and an 8-5 shot advantage through 20 minutes.
SECOND PERIOD SUMMARY
· Julia Nearis wristed a shot into the back of the net at 7:15 to give BU a 2-0 lead.
· Harnett made three incredible back-to-back-to-back saves from all angles to keep the Wildcats within two goals at 15:56.
THIRD PERIOD SUMMARY
· After a great effort to keep the puck in the zone, Thiérus skated the puck down the slot by herself and sent a backhand home at 3:18 to lift the Wildcats within 2-1.
· Lauren Martin (Cambridge, Ontario) and Nicole Kelly (Brantford, Ontario) were credited with assists.
· UNH went on its third power play of the period – fifth of the game – at 14:24 but Schroeder preserved BU's lead with key stops against Kelly in front and Brianna Brooks (Whitby, Ontario) from the slot.
· Harnett went to the bench with 47 seconds remaining for the extra UNH attacker but the Terriers controlled the puck to preserve the win.
UNH NOTEBOOK
· Harnett recorded her first start of the season for the 'Cats.
· Thiérus extended her point streak to three games with her second goal in as many games.
· All three of UNH's posted points were earned by Canadians; two from Ontario and one from Quebec.
Kelly and Martin both notched their second points of the season.
· Lauren Martin (Cambridge, Ontario) tallied a team-high 12 faceoff wins.
