Nine Wildcat Teams Record Perfect Score of 100
INDIANAPOLIS – The University of New Hampshire athletic department earned an NCAA Graduation Success Rate score of 95 percent, including nine teams with a perfect mark of 100, in the most recent data that was released Tuesday.
UNH ranked second in the nation – only to Cornell University -- on the list of 53 Land Grant Universities; that list includes Arizona, UConn, Illinois, Kentucky, LSU, N.C. State and Ohio State. And UNH scored significantly higher than the national student-athlete average of 88 percent.
"We never take for granted the fabulous effort our staff and student-athletes put into our academic mission," UNH director of athletics Marty Scarano said. "Academic achievement is the foundation to our success and we are tremendously proud of this achievement. All due credit to our student-athletes!"
The NCAA also announced the Federal Graduation Rate, and the mark for UNH's student-athletes matched the University's general student body at 77.
The GSR indicates the percentage of scholarship student-athletes earning a degree within six years; these numbers are for the entering class of 2014. The NCAA developed the GSR to more accurately assess the academic success of student-athletes. Unlike the federal graduation rate, the GSR takes transfer students into account.

UNH was the conference leader in the nine sports that received a perfect mark of 100; they are women's basketball, field hockey, gymnastics, lacrosse, men's skiing, women's skiing, women's soccer, swimming & diving and volleyball. In addition to having the top overall GSR in America East, the Wildcats were atop the leaderboard in the EAGL and EISA conferences.
Five other Wildcat teams recorded a score of 90 or higher with football (96) followed by women's cross country/track & field (95), men's ice hockey (93), women's ice hockey (92) and men's soccer (91).
New Hampshire recorded the top overall mark in America East in both GSR and Federal Graduation Rate (79).
Overall, 13 of 16 UNH teams recorded a GSR higher than the sport's national average. Football's mark of 96 percent is significantly higher than the 80% FCS national average.
This year's overall GSR is the sixth consecutive year UNH topped a mark of 90; the Wildcats recorded a 96 last year, 93 in 2018, 92 in 2017, 91 in 2016, and 90 in 2015.
"UNH Athletics is very proud of the continued success of our student-athletes both in the classroom and in the competitive arena," said Dr. Heather Barber, UNH faculty athletic representative. "Earning a 95% GSR places UNH among a group of exceptional institutions and is evidence of the commitment of our student-athletes, coaches, support staff, and administration to our mission of graduating every student-athlete."
New Hampshire's outstanding GSR reflects the high academic performance of its student-athletes. UNH won the America East Walter Harrison Academic Cup, which acknowledges the highest overall grade-point-average for the fourth time in five years in the 2018-19 season.
