Martinez Records Double-Double in 56-43 Loss to UVM

Sophomore Forward Jayden Martinez Finishes With 17 Points, 11 Rebounds

DURHAM, N.H. – Jayden Martinez (Cibolo, Texas) led the Wildcats in points (17) and rebounds (11), but the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team was defeated 56-43 by the University of Vermont in Wednesday night's matchup at Lundholm Gym.
It was Martinez's sixth double-double of the season. He was a perfect 4 of 4 on 3-pointers and went 3-for-4 at the foul line. Sean Sutherlin (New Brighton, Minn.) finished with totals of nine points and nine rebounds, while Nick Guadarrama (Newington, Conn.) had eight points and seven rebounds.
Anthony Lamb led the way for UVM with a game-high 20 points and five rebounds. Stef Smith and Ryan Davis added 11 and 9 points, respectively.
UNH is now 7-2 at home, 10-10 overall and 3-4 in America East. UVM extends its record to 8-3 on the road, 16-6 overall and 6-1 in America East with a sixth straight win.

FIRST HALF
•Both teams struggled to score in the opening 20 minutes with UNH at 19.2 percent (5-25) from the floor and Vermont at 35.7 percent (10-28).
•UNH scored the first four points of the game and held a 7-2 lead at 13:10.
•UVM went on a 4-0 spurt to take its first lead, 8-7, at 11:52.
•Guadarrama's layup put the Wildcats back in front, 9-8, at 11:25.
•Neither team scored again until 7:45, when UVM got hot and extended its advantage to 18-9 at 5:52.
•Martinez decreased UVM's lead with two free throws that advanced the score to 20-13 at 1:44.
•Sutherlin's layup lifted the Wildcats within 22-16 with 20 seconds on the clock, but Smith hit a 3-pointer at the other end of the court to send Vermont into the locker room with a 25-16 lead.
SECOND HALF
•A 3-pointer scored by Martinez made the score 27-19 at 18:59, but UVM surged ahead to a 37-19 lead at 15:33.
•Trailing 40-22 at 14:41, UNH slowly chipped back as another Martinez 3-pointer was followed by baskets in the paint from Sutherlin and Guadarrama to pull the Wildcats within 40-29 at 12:43.
•Vermont pushed the margin to 18 points, 50-32, at 9:05.
•Josh Hopkins (Greensboro, N.C.) decreased the Wildcats' deficit to 52-37 with a 3-pointer at 6:50.
•The Wildcats would get no closer, however, until Sutherlin's layup in transition closed the scoring, 56-43, with 2:19 remaining.
