QUICK HITTERS
The biggest news out of Durham prior to UNH's first game of the season was the announcement that 21st-year head coach Sean McDonnell took an indefinite leave of absence for health-related reasons on Aug. 26.
Ricky Santos, who rejoined the UNH staff in March as associate head coach and quarterbacks coach, was named interim head coach Aug. 26. Santos spent the past three seasons (2016-18) as the QB coach at Columbia University. From 2013-15, Santos coached UNH's wide receivers.
New Hampshire and Rhode Island will clash on the football field for the 93rd time this Saturday to mark the second-longest rivalry in UNH history.
UNH holds a 59-28-5 series edge against URI. The Rams ended a stretch of seven consecutive losses to the Wildcats with last year's 24-21 victory at Meade Stadium.
UNH has won eight consecutive matchups vs. URI in Durham. The last time the Rams returned to Rhode Island with a win against the Wildcats was Sept. 16, 1995 (10-7).
New Hampshire has a 13-5 lifetime record at Wildcat Stadium and that includes 3-3 a year ago and 8-4 in CAA conference games (1-0 vs. Rhode Island). Since 2008, UNH has a 55-10 home record (.846 win percentage) that includes 37-7 (.841) against CAA conference teams.
UNH won 13 consecutive home openers spanning the 2005-17 seasons, but that streak ended in 2018 when Colgate University recorded a 10-3 win at Wildcat Stadium last September (Sept. 8).
Max Brosmer, who played the second half in UNH's Sept. 7 season-opener at College of the Holy Cross, became the first true freshman quarterback to start a game in program history when he took the field Sept. 14 at Florida International.
Brosmer and redshirt freshman Dylan Laube connected for an 86-yard touchdown last week at Florida International. It is UNH's longest pass play since the longest pass play in program history: Oct. 24, 1998 (90 yards; Tim Cramsey to Jermaine Washington vs. William & Mary).
On the national leaderboard, redshirt freshman Dylan Laube ranks No. 3 in yards per reception (32.25) and 27th in all-purpose yards (129.50 per game). Sophomore safety Pop Bush is No. 3 in solo tackles (8.0 per game) and senior linebacker Cameron Brusko is No. 7 in that stat at 7.0 per game.
