Sullivan's 15 Kills Propels 'Cats Past Iona, 3-1

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Abby Sullivan (Methuen, Mass.) recorded a career-high 15 kills to propel the University of New Hampshire volleyball team to a 3-1 victory against Iona College in Sunday afternoon's action at the Army Invitational.
The set scores were 25-16, 25-16, 19-25, 25-8. UNH, which recorded a .288 hitting percentage and limited Iona to a .129 clip, improves to 2-1. The Gaels are 0-2.
Sullivan did not commit an error on 23 swings for a .652 hitting percentage. She also recorded two blocks and a dig. UNH's offense was otherwise balanced with five Wildcats finishing between 5 and 8 kills.

Holly Young Invitational: New Hampshire welcomes Brown University, College of the Holy Cross and Seattle University to Lundholm Gymnasium for the Holly Young Invitational on Sept. 5-7. TOP 'CATS
- Sullivan recorded match highs in both kills (15) and points (16).
- Emma Patlovich (Lake Forest, Ill.) and Wren Macaulay (Lake Orion, Mich.) split the setting duties with 23 and 22 assists, respectively. Both setters also had seven digs.
- Kennedi Smith (The Woodlands, Texas) tallied 12 points on eight kills, four assisted blocks and two service aces. She also had nine digs.
- Emily Tanski (Plymouth, Mich.) led all players with 17 digs.
- Hannah Crist (Cicero, Ind.) finished with nine points on seven kills and four assisted blocks.
- Hannah Petke (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) tallied 7.5 points on seven kills and an assisted block.
- Erin Hedrick (Montvale, N.J.) had 6.5 points with six kills and an assisted block.
- Leading 5-4, the Wildcats reeled off seven consecutive points behind the service of Smith, who had two aces during the run.
- Iona got as close as six points five times before UNH's 3-0 spurt extended the margin to 21-12.
- New Hampshire won the first three points, but Iona rallied to take a 6-5 lead.
- With the score tied 10-10, the Wildcats went on an 8-0 run on Tanski's serve to build a commanding 18-10 advantage.
- The Gaels took a 6-3 lead, but the 'Cats won eight of the next 11 points to surge in front, 11-9. Sullivan recorded three kills in that span.
- With the set level at 13, Iona went on a 6-2 run to take a 19-15 lead and the designated visitors pushed the margin to seven points, 23-16.
- New Hampshire won three consecutive points to break a 4-4 tie and take a lead that would not be relinquished.
- Leading 10-6, the Wildcats pulled away with six consecutive points.
- The 'Cats also ended the match on a 6-0 run.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- In his opening weekend as UNH head coach, Christopher Feliciano led the Wildcats to a 2-1 record at the Army Invitational with wins against Iona and the University of Rhode Island.
- Smith is on the verge of becoming the 17th UNH player to reach 1,000 career points. She has 990.
- Tanski is No. 7 on the program's all-time digs leaderboard with 1,124. Ahead of her on the list is Jillian Ross at 1,207.
- In Set 4, UNH recorded a .379 hitting percentage while Iona's was -.040 with more attack errors (five) than kills (four).
