12/9/2019 4:33:00 PM | General, Men's Track & Field, Women's Basketball
DURHAM, N.H. - Sophomore Kevin McGrath (Hopkinton, N.H.) of the men's track & field team and senior Ashley Storey (Cumberland, Maine) of the women's basketball team were named this week's Service Credit Union Student-Athlete Spotlight honors for competition from Dec. 2 to Dec. 8.
Storey led the Wildcats in a 1-1 week, tallying 23 points against UMass on the road, and career-high 33 points against CCSU at home on Sunday.
The Wildcats found themselves down against UMass by as many as 19 points on Thursday evening, but led by Storey's 17 second-half points, the Wildcats cut the lead to just one point, with four seconds left in the game with the score 66-65. The Wildcats ultimately fell in that contest by a score of 67-65. Storey also had a team-high six boards, two assists, two blocks, and three steals in the game.
Â
Storey followed up that performance by dropping the first 30+ point performance by a Wildcat in two full seasons; Storey stomped her old career-high of 24 points with a 33-point performance on 13-22 shooting, and a career-high four made three-pointers, on five attempts (80.0%) while also grabbing a game-high eight rebounds. The last Wildcat to tally 30 or more points in a game was Carlie Pogue '18 back in the 2016-17 season, scoring 31 points against UMBC on February 26, 2017.
For her performance, Storey was named America East Player of the Week.
Â
The Wildcats have 10 days between games and will begin a four game road trip that will extend into the conference season next Wednesday, December 18th as the 'Cats travel to Hanover for the Granite State Rivalry against Dartmouth at 7 P.M. on NESN. New Hampshire returns home after the four game road trip next year, hosting the Hartford Hawks on Sunday, January 5 at 1 P.M. For tickets, visit UNHWildcats.com/tickets or call (603)862-4000.

McGrath helped spur the Wildcats to a home meet victory in the team's season opener against Maine. After sitting out his first season due to injury, McGrath returned to the Paul Sweet Oval and competed in the high jump; McGrath won the event with a jump that cleared 6'8.25", which was just under an inch off the school record for the indoor high jump of 6'9". It beat his old personal best height of 6'4", on just his third registered collegiate result in the high jump.
After winter break, the Wildcats track & field squad opens up the spring semester in January with two straight home meets; they host the Holy cross Crusaders on Saturday, January 18th, and host a tri-meet with Vermont and Maine on Saturday, January 25th.
