Nick Guadarrama Records Sixth Double-Double of Year with Game Highs in Points (22) and Rebounds (10)

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Nick Guadarrama (Newington, Conn.) recorded 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team to Wednesday night's 64-56 win against Marist College at McCann Arena.

With UNH leading 60-56, Guadarrama pulled down an offensive rebound with 36 seconds remaining and Josh Hopkins (Greensboro, N.C.) made two free throws to extend the advantage to six points with 34.8 on the clock. After a defensive stop by the Wildcats, Guadarrama's emphatic one-handed dunk closed the scoring with 18.1 seconds remaining.

UNH improved to 6-5 and Marist lost its seventh straight to fall to 1-7.

FIRST HALF

* There were five lead changes and two tie scores in the game -- all in the opening 4:47 of the first half.

* With UNH trailing 8-6, Sean Sutherlin (New Brighton, Minn.) put back his own miss to level the score at 15:47 and then Jayden Martinez (Cibolo, Texas) hit long jumper from the left wing to give the Wildcats a 10-8 lead and ignite a 15-3 run; UNH led the rest of the way.

* New Hampshire hit three consecutive 3-pointers -- two by Marque Maultsby (Raleigh, N.C.) and one from Chris Lester (Barrington, Ill.) -- extended the lead to double digits, 21-11, at 10:19.

* Sutherlin's layup on an inbounds play extended UNH's advantage to 27-13 at 8:02 and prompted Marist to call its third timeout of the half.

* The Red Foxes outscored the visitors 12-3 the rest of the half to close within 30-25 heading into halftime.

SECOND HALF

* Marist inched within three points, 39-36, at 14:16.

* After a pair of empty possessions by both teams, Hopkins drilled a 3-pointer from the top-right side to ignite a 7-0 run that reestablished a double-figure lead of 46-36.

* The Red Foxes called time out, but 3-balls by Guadarrama and Mark Carbone (Wethersfield, Conn.) and a foul shot by Luke Rosinski (Derry, N.H.) at 9:29 pushed the run to 14 consecutive points and the advantage to 53-36.

* Marist chipped away to trim the deficit to five points, 56-51, at 4:58.

* Guadarrama made a layup on the left blocks then hit a right-baseline jumper with the shot clock expiring to advance the score to 60-52 at 2:34.

* The Red Foxes closed within 60-56 with 66 seconds remaining.

* At the other end of the court, Guadarrama pulled down that crucial offensive rebound and Hopkins was clutch at the foul line to secure the Wildcats' second road win of the year.

UNH NOTEBOOK

* It was Guadarrama's sixth double-double and his fourth 20+ point effort of the season.

* Sutherlin matched Guadarrama's game-high 10 rebounds. He also had five points and five assists.

* Maultsby also had a game-high five assists. His other stats included 10 points and four rebounds.

* UNH made double-digit 3-pointers for the eighth time this season, and that includes each of the last four.

* The Wildcats are 6-0 when leading at halftime.

* New Hampshire has alternated wins and losses the past eight games.

* UNH's six wins surpasses last year's season total.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

* UNH made 10 of 18 field goals the opening 12 minutes of the game to build its 27-13 lead. The Wildcats were 1 of 9 the closing eight minutes.

* In contrast, Marist was 5 of 18 the opening 12 minutes and 5-for-11 the next eight.

* The Wildcats shot 44.4% from the floor in the second half in comparison to Marist's 36.7%.
