Storey Records 24 Points, 13 Rebounds in 76-68 Loss to Brown

Senior Forward Ashley Storey Matched Her Career High of 24 Points and Pulled Down a Personal-Best 13 Rebounds
DURHAM, N.H. – Senior forward Ashley Storey (Cumberland, Maine) and sophomore forward Ivy Gogolin (Hopkinton, Mass.) both recorded a double-double for the Wildcats, but the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team was edged 76-68 by Brown University on Sunday afternoon at Lundholm Gym.
Storey matched her career high of 24 points and also pulled down a personal-best 13 rebounds to lead all players in the game in both stats. Gogolin finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds to mark season highs in both stats.
There were 13 lead changes and 11 tie scores in the game, and that included six of both in the third quarter.
UNH is now 2-4 overall and Brown is 3-3.

- Storey netted 24 points on 9 of 15 shooting from the floor, including 2-for-4 on 3-pointers, as well as 4 of 7 from the foul line. She also tallied two assists, two steals and a block.
- Gogolin scored 10 points by making 5 of 9 field goal attempts.
- Freshman guard Héléna Delaruelle (Enghien-les-Bains, France) finished with nine points and game-high five assists.
- Senior guard Caroline Soucy (Beverly, Mass.) recorded 13 points and four steals. She was a perfect 8-for-8 at the foul line.
- Sophomore guard Amanda Torres (Hudson, N.H.) chipped in with eight points, four rebounds and three assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- With UNH leading 9-6 four minutes into the game, Soucy hit two free throws and then a 3-pointer to extend the advantage to 14-6 midway through the first quarter.
- Brown closed within 14-11 at 3:24 but the Wildcats went on a 10-2 run to push the margin to 11 points, 24-13, on a Gogolin's jumper at 1:06; Storey hit a pair of 3-pointers during that spurt.
- Brown's Dominque Leonidas (14 points, six rebounds) hit a layup in the closing seconds of the first quarter to trim the Bears' deficit to 26-17.
- UNH built its largest lead of the game, 13 points, when Gogolin's jump shot gave the 'Cats a 32-19 advantage at 6:49 of the second quarter.
- Trailing 34-26 midway through the period, the Bears went on an 11-2 run to take their first lead of the game, 37-36, at 2:52.
- It was short-lived, however, as Soucy's jumper on the next possession put the 'Cats back in front, 38-37.
- Justine Gaziano (17 points, five rebounds) scored the last four points of the half to send Brown into the locker room with a 41-38 lead.
- UNH scored the first five points of the third quarter – four on a pair of Storey layups – to go ahead 43-41 at 8:36.
- The largest lead the remainder of the quarter for either team was three points, 57-54, by the 'Cats on two Delaruelle free throws at 1:11.
- Mckenna Dale (12 points, six rebounds) scored the last three points of the third quarter to give Brown a 58-57 lead.
- Soucy made two foul shots at 7:55 of the fourth quarter to put UNH back in front, 63-60.
- The Bears answered with seven consecutive points and held a 69-65 lead midway through the quarter.
- Sam Gallo (Northford, Conn.) went 1-for-2 at the foul line to advance the score to 69-66 at 3:13.
- Brown scored the next seven points, however, to gradually pull away down the stretch and hold its largest lead of the game – 10 points – at 76-66 with 17 seconds remaining.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- New Hampshire made 52.9% of its first-half field goals but trailed 41-38 at halftime as Brown converted 11 UNH turnovers into 17 points.
- The Wildcats were outscored 18-11 in the fourth quarter, when they made 2 of 15 FGs in comparison to Brown's 6-for-12.
- UNH finished with a 43-37 rebounding advantage, but the Bears recorded a 14-11 edge on the offensive glass that led to a 13-9 edge in second-chance points.
- Brown scored 24 points off UNH's 18 turnovers. The 'Cats netted four points on the Bears' nine giveaways.
- The visitors outscored New Hampshire 40-28 in the paint, and also had a13-5 edge in fastbreak points.
