McManus Tallies Early Goal in 5-1 Loss at #4 NU

UNH scored on its first shot on goal of the contest but fall to the Huskies.
BOSTON – Senior Meghara McManus (Milton, Mass.) tallied her team-leading eighth goal of the season on her first shot on target of the game, but the University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team fell to #4 Northeastern on Friday evening, 5-1.
McManus' goal came within the first minute on the first shot on goal of the game, but Northeastern answered back with five unanswered goals, three in the first period.
Freshman Nikki Harnett (Plymouth, Minn.) got her first career start in net and stopped seven shots in the first period; her record on the season is now 0-1-1. In relief, Ava Boutilier (Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island) posted 16 saves.

GAME RECAP
- The Wildcats struck first just 32 seconds into the game as Meghara McManus collected a turnover at the top of the offensive zone and fired a shot to the stick side of Frankel on the first shot on goal of the contest.
- The Huskies would respond with three first period goals of their own, all even strength. The first two came from Peyton Anderson 9:26 and 16:35 into the period, and third came just over a minute later to Skylar Fontaine.
- Northeastern would tally even strength goals in the second and third periods, killing off two UNH powerplays in the final two frames, to secure a 5-1 victory.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Meghara McManus' goal was the quickest UNH goal of the season.
- Sophomore Talli Warren (Mundleville, New Brunswick) tallied a goal 1:36 into the game at Providence back in October (UNH win, 6-2).
- It was also the fastest UNH goal at the start of a period, beating out Carlee Turner (Scottsdale, Ariz.) who tallied a goal 38 seconds into the third period in that same game.
- This was UNH's first loss of the season when scoring first (4-1-0).
- New Hampshire falls to 2-3-0 in the first game of a back-to-back weekend.
- The Wildcats killed off five NU power plays in the contest; their season percentage is now up to 91.2%
