No. 14 Wildcats Suffer First Loss of the Season at UAlbany

UNH held without a goal for just the second time all season.
ALBANY, N.Y. – The University of New Hampshire men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the 2019 season as the No. 14 Wildcats fell to the UAlbany Great Danes by a score of 1-0 on Friday evening.
An early goal by the Great Danes in the 23rd minute of the game was the difference in this contest, as UAlbany held UNH without a shot on goal for the remainder of the game after the goal was scored.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Wildcats started things off strong with two good scoring chances in the first 14 minutes of play. Josh Bauer (Bedford, N.H.) got things going in the ninth minute with a shot to the lower left corner of the net trying to beat the keeper, but the attempt was saved.
- Grad student Jacob Mannix (Longmeadow, Mass.) tried his luck on the UAlbany 'keeper in the 14th minute but his high shot went straight-on to the middle of the net for a save.
- UAlbany tallied its lone goal in the 23rd minute, a cross into the 18 found the head of Austin DaSilva who redirected it with his head to just inside the right post for the 1-0 lead.
- The Great Danes held the Wildcats without a shot on goal for the remainder of the first half, blocking two shots and keeping the Wildcats off the board.
- In the second half UAlbany once again held UNH to zero shots on goal; grad student Fabian Lutz (Bad Grönenbach, Germany) had a couple chances to equalize in the 70th and 89th minutes but both attempts missed just high.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- New Hampshire outshot Albany 10-3 overall and 2-1 on net.
- Fouls were evenly matched in the first half, Albany with 10 UNH with 9, and overall with New Hampshire at 18 and UAlbany with 17.
- Both teams took two corner kicks in the contest.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- For just the second time all season, New Hampshire did not tally a goal. The first time it happened was a 0-0 draw at Colgate back in September.
- The Wildcats sit in first in the America East standings with 15 points. Their final regular season opponent, Vermont, sits in second with 12.
