The biggest news out of Durham prior to UNH's first game of the season was the announcement that 21st-year head coach Sean McDonnell took an indefinite leave of absence for health-related reasons on Aug. 26.

Ricky Santos, who rejoined the UNH staff in March as associate head coach and quarterbacks coach, was named interim head coach Aug. 26. Santos spent the past three seasons (2016-18) as the QB coach at Columbia University. From 2013-15, Santos coached UNH's wide receivers.

UNH has a 4-3 lifetime record, including 1-2 on the road, against Stony Brook. The Seawolves have won each of the last two meetings and 3 of 4. The home team has a 5-2 advantage in these head-to-head matchups.

Freshman linebacker Oleh Manzyk received plenty of hardware in recognition of last week's performance against Elon in which he recorded career-highs in total tackles (eight) and sacks (three), and also had a 55-yard INT return for a touchdown.

Manzyk was feted as STATS FCS National Freshman of the Week, with the New England Football Writers/Grinold Chapter Division I Gold Helmet Award, and as CAA Football Rookie of the Week.

New Hampshire went a perfect 3-0 on its three-game homestand (Sept. 21-Oct. 5) and the Wildcats carry a three-game winning streak into Saturday's game at 22nd-ranked Stony Brook.

UNH has outscored the opposition 76-40 during this run. The offense has scored a low of 23 points and high of 27, while the defense has allowed a total of 16 points the past two weeks.

The Wildcats' defense has forced eight turnovers and the 'Cats have a +3 turnover ratio the past three games. UNH's D has recorded 13 sacks in the win streak and that incudes a season-high six last week vs. Elon.

UNH's defense has climbed into the top 10 in scoring defense (124 ranked) at No. 8 by allowing a mere 16.6 points per game. With four interceptions last Saturday vs. Elon, the Wildcats are suddenly No. 9 in interceptions (seven). And with two touchdowns last week, the 'Cats have vaulted to No. 4 in defensive TDs (two).

Evan Gray enters Saturday's game with 1,418 career rushing yards, which puts him 82 away from 1,500.

Carlos Washington, Jr. has 926 career rushing yards; he is 74 away from 1,000.
