Caron's Late Goal Lifts 'Cats Past UMass, 2-1

AMHERST, Mass. – Finn Caron (Hampton, N.H.) scored with 2:04 remaining in regulation to lift the University of New Hampshire field hockey team to Sunday afternoon's 2-1 victory against the University of Massachusetts at Gladchuk Field Hockey Complex.
UNH is now 6-5 overall and UMass falls to 4-7.
Jemma Woods (Frimley, England) recorded six saves. She made one of those stops with no time remaining, and Bloem van den Brekel (Eindhoven, Netherlands) was credited with a defensive save with no time remaining, to preserve the victory. Nicky Bajus (Lions Bay, British Columbia) was also credited with a defensive save.
UMass goalie Marlise van Tonder stopped four shots.

* UNH returns to action Friday, Oct. 11 at 21st-ranked UAlbany. New Hampshire also plays at Providence College next weekend (Oct. 13; 1 p.m.).
* The Wildcats' next home game is Oct. 18 (6 p.m.) vs. UMass Lowell.

* Bailey Fanikos (Lynnfield, Mass.) gave UNH a 1-0 lead at 5:45 when she capitalized on a UMass turnover inside the circle.

* UMass generated late pressure but were denied the game-tying goal at the end by both Woods and van den Brekel.
