THE DIFFERENCE
- Providence's defensive effort limited UNH to eight shots and three penalty corners. In the last 18 minutes of regulation, the Friars recorded an 6-0 shot advantage and 2-0 edge in corners to preserve their 2-1 lead.
GAME RECAP
- PC generated a corner in the 10th minute and Kara Sanford extended her stick in the middle of circle to deflect a shot off the crossbar.
- The Friars converted their next corner into a goal and 1-0 lead at 16:29. Amanda Collins inserted the ball to the top of the circle and Babineau, the stick-stop, did not stop the ball cleanly. Babineau corralled the ball, however, and blasted a low shot into the cage.
- Three minutes later, UNH's Tori Palumbo (Ayer, Mass.) penetrated the circle deep on the right side and sent a shot across the goalmouth wide of the far post.
- In the 30th minute, Bloem van den Brekel (Eindhoven, Netherlands) powered a reverse-stick shot that was stopped by Rice, who also denied Palumbo off the rebound.
- Providence took a 1-0 lead into halftime with the shots even, 4-4. The visitors had a 3-1 edge in corners in the opening 35 minutes.
- New Hampshire generated a corner in the 42nd minute on a corner. The battery of captains Katie Audino (Severn, Md.) and Rachel Bossi (Chelmsford, Mass.) set up the low blast off the stick of Nicky Bajus (Lions Bay, British Columbia) toward the left post. Rice dove head-first toward to make the stick save and preserved PC's 1-0 lead.
- The Wildcats continued to pressure, however, and tied the game at 43:07. On the right wing, Kayla Sliz (Ajax, Ontario) struck the ball into the middle of the circle, where Danahy redirected the ball high into the cage.
- PC responded almost immediately with a corner, and Rudert denied Amanda Collins at 44:37. Moments later, Izzy Mendez intercepted a UNH back-pass in the top-right of the circle and lifted a shot over the sliding goalie for a 2-1 Friars' lead at 44:55.
- In the 52nd minute, Rice once again denied van den Brekel on a PCd, rising shot from the top of the circle.
- UNH called time out at that point, but the 'Cats did not record a shot the rest of the way.
