New Hampshire is led by 20th-year head coach Sean McDonnell, who has guided the Wildcats to the NCAA FCS tournament each of the last 14 years (longest active streak in the nation).
UNH has won all four lifetime meetings against Elon; last year at Wildcat Stadium, No. 18/16 UNH prevailed 16-6 against the No. 7/9 Phoenix. Elon scored a TD with 3:06 remaining, then UNH's Ryan Sosnak blocked a 37-yard field goal attempt with 52 seconds on the clock to secure the win.
The last time these teams met at Rhodes Stadium (Oct. 7, 2016), UNH's Morgan Ellman kicked a 35-yard field goal with 2:09 remaining in the fourth quarter to lift the Wildcats to a 13-10 victory. UNH also recorded a 48-14 road win in 2014, which marked the first CAA conference game for Elon. In 2015, the 'Cats won 37-14 at home.
A total of six active Wildcats have 100+ career tackles and junior linebacker Quinlen Dean is on the verge of 200; he enters Saturday's game at Elon with 193 career stops (123-70-193).
Junior safety Pop Lacey recorded a game-high 10 tackles and scored on an interception return at Colorado on Sept. 15. It was his first INT of the season and fourth career. It was also his second career pick-6; he had a 44-yard INT return for a score Nov. 19, 2016 at Maine.
Sophomore safety Evan Horn has intercepted a pass in the end zone each of the past two games.
Junior Drew Sanborn punted six times for an average of 49.7 yards at Colorado. He recorded a career long of 60 in the third quarter and also booted a 59 yarder; Sanborn pinned CU inside the 20 four times with no touchbacks.
Sophomore defensive end Brian Carter finished with two sacks, including a strip-sack, as part of his three tackles against the Buffaloes; he was also credited with a pass breakup.
Junior Jeff Carter and redshirt freshman Riley Burns both made their first career start at CU. They lined up side-by-side on the left side of the offensive line with Carter at tackle and Burns at guard.
Spanning the 2004-17 seasons, UNH has a 6-10 record following an open week. The Wildcats have lost each of the last three games after the open week: 2015 (34-18 at W&M), 2016 (36-25 vs. Albany), 2017 (38-24 at Stony Brook). UNH had two open weeks in 2014 and were victors the next game both times (Lehigh, 45-27, and Stony Brook, 28-20; both at home).
The Wildcats are winless through three games for the first time since 2002.
