Tanski Named To All-Tourney Team, 'Cats Fall to Temple, 3-1

PHILADELPHIA – Kennedi Smith (The Woodlands, Texas) recorded her fourth consecutive double-double with 10 kills and 20 digs, but the University of New Hampshire volleyball team was defeated 3-1 by Temple University in the Wildcats' last match of the Cherry & White Challenge at McGonigle Hall on Saturday.
Smith's 10 kills and 20 digs were both team highs, and her dig total marked a season high. She finished the tourney with 38 kills and 40 digs.
Emily Tanski (Plymouth, Mich.), who was named to the All-Tournament Team, recorded 17 digs, three assists and a service ace. In the three matches at the Cherry & White Challenge, Tanski amassed 59 digs for an average of 5.36 per set.
Reigning conference Player of the week Gabri Olhava (Mount Prospect, Ill.)recorded eight kills, three blocks and five digs vs. the Owls. Emma Tupa (Brecksville, Ohio) was next with six kills.
Emma Patlovich (Lake Forest, Ill.; 19 assists) and Mali Jereczek (Green Bay, Wis.; 14 assists) split the setting duties.
UNH went 0-3 at the Cherry & White Challenge and ended the non-conference portion of its schedule with a 4-10 record.

There were three ties and two lead changes in the first set.
UNH took the first two points and an early 6-3 lead but Temple reeled off four consecutive points to go in front, 7-6.
The Wildcats responded with a 5-0 run, bolstered by kills from Maddie Wiedenfeld (Omaha, Neb.), Logan Welti (Middleton, Wis.) and Smith, to surge back in front, 11-7.
The 'Cats extended the lead to as high as six points, 19-13, but Temple rallied with a 9-3 run to tie the score at 22.
Jereczek entered the match in place of Patlovich, and the substitution paid immediate dividends as Jereczek combined with Olhava for a block that put UNH back in front, 23-22.
An attack error by Temple advanced the score to set point, and then Olhava teamed with Hannah Stewart (Victor, N.Y.) to give the Wildcats the first set.

Temple extended the advantage to 21-15 and closed out the set with three consecutive points at 25-17.
SET 3
There were no ties or lead changes in the third set as Temple rolled out to a 4-0 lead and UNH never got closer than three points the rest of the set.
Leading 16-11, the Owls took firm control of the set with a 5-0 run that extended the cushion to double digits.
SET 4
There were seven ties and three lead changes in the fourth set.
New Hampshire built an early 7-4 advantage, but Temple rallied to tie the score at 7-7, 8-8 and 9-9.
UNH surged in front, 13-10, but the Owls responded with five consecutive points to take a 15-13 lead.
Trailing 17-15, the Wildcats reeled off five consecutive points to regain the lead, 20-17.
Temple called a timeout and responded with a 3-0 run to knot the score.
A kill by Smith put New Hampshire back in front, but the home team won the next four points to close within match point, 24-21.
A service error kept UNH's hopes alive for one point, but the Owls closed out the set and match on the next one.
