Wildcats Take the 4x800 at Colonial Relays

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The University of New Hampshire men's and women's track teams had several competitors down at the Colonial Relays hosted by William & Mary going from Thursday, April 5 to Saturday, April 7. The Wildcats sent 12 athletes to Virginia to compete with several members bringing home personal bests and a first-place relay finish.
THURSDAY
The lone Wildcat in action Thursday night was Angelyn Masters (Bangor, Maine) who took second in the 3000m run with a time of 9 minutes, 54.20 seconds, just two seconds behind the first place runner. The finish sets a new personal best for Masters in the event, her previous PB was 10:16.57 in the indoor, which was set in a home meet back in January, and her fastest time in the outdoor prior to this race was 10:19.81 at last years' Colonial Relays.
FRIDAY
Friday's action saw several running events as well as long jumps and high jumps. The high-jumping trio of Shelby Strickland (Kennebunk, Maine), Rachel Morrison (Westwood, Mass.), and Tessa Artruc (Livonia, N.Y.) placed seventh and eighth in the high jump, with Strickland taking seventh with a jump of 5 feet, 5 inches, while Morrison and Artruc finished tied for eighth with a jump of 5'3".
Senior Emma Checovich (North Hampton, N.H.) took fifth in the long jump with a distance of 17'6.75", just under a foot off her personal best. She also competed in the 100m hurdles and placed 10th with a time of 14.57 seconds; her personal best in that event is 14.36.
On the track, sophomore Matthew Adams (Cocnord, N.H.) and Joseph Poggi (Derry, N.H.) competed in the 400m dash and finished 56th and 69th respectively. Adams' time was 51.35 seconds, beating his old personal best in the event (51.71), and Poggi's was 52.50 seconds.
 In the women's 400m dash, Jessica Hackett (Dover, N.H.) and Elise Renahan (Atkinson, N.H.) placed in the finals, with Hackett finishing 16th with a time of 58.03 seconds and Renahan finished 58.88 seconds, just missing her personal best by 0.09 seconds.
The men's 800m run saw William Ulrich (Mineola, N.Y.) took 14th with a time of 1:53.37, and Aaron Dobe (Contoocook, N.H.) finished 1:56.27, just 0.25 seconds behind his personal best in the event.
SATURDAY
 The Wildcats started off strong on Saturday with the team of Ulrich, Dobe, Adams, and Poggi taking first in the 4x800 relay in a photo finish. The Wildcats finished first with a time of 7:43.00, while second place Monmouth finished at 7:43.26.

On the women's side, A relay team of Artruc, Checovich, Renahan, and Hackett took fifth in the 4x400 with a final time of 3:59.72. In the 1600 sprint relay, a team of Checovich, Hackett, Renahan, and Masters took third with a time of 4:07.64.
In the men's discus finals, Hani Traboulsi (Bensalem, Pa.) took eighth with a distance of 135'5".
