Seven 'Cats Named to National Academic Squad

Bensaia Receives Scholar of Distinction Recognition
CHANDLER, Ariz. – A total of seven student-athletes on the University of New Hampshire field hockey team were named to the 2017 ZAG Field Hockey/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I National Academic Squad on Thursday. Of those seven honorees, senior Gianna Bensaia (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) received Scholar of Distinction recognition.
UNH also earned recognition with a Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I National Academic Team Award for achieving a minimum team grade-point average of 3.0 during the first semester of the 2017-18 academic year.
Bensaia was joined on the National Academic Squad by seniors Brittany Marshall (Hopkinton, N.H.) and Aggie Sutherland (Dauphin, Pa.), junior Rachel Bossi (Chelmsford, Mass.), sophomores Madelyn McAteer (Annapolis, Md.) and Kayla Sliz (Ajax, Ontario), and freshman Erin Malone (Yorktown, Va.).
Marshall has been named to the National Academic Squad all four years of her collegiate career. This is the second honor in as many years for both McAteer and Sliz.
The National Academic Squad recognizes those student-athletes who achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the fall 2017 semester. Bensaia earned Scholar of Distinction for achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.90 or higher through the first semester of the 2017-18 academic year.
UNH boasted one NFHCA Northeast Region First Team and two Second Team honorees, one ECAC All-Star Honorable Mention and two America East All-Conference Team selections in 2017.
