Bossi Is A Repeat Honoree From the 2017 Northeast Region Second Team
CHANDLER, Ariz. – Rachel Bossi (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Bloem van den Brekel (Eindhoven, Netherlands) of the University of New Hampshire field hockey team were named to the 2018 Longstreth/NFHCA Northeast Region Second Team on Monday.
Both Wildcats were also named to the 2018 America East All-Conference East Division Team earlier this month. Bossi is a repeat Northeast Region Second Team selection from last year; she recently competed at the NFHCA Senior Game and was voted the America East Fans' Choice Player of the Year.
Bossi, who started all 18 games in '18 as a senior midfielder and co-captain, recorded nine points on one goal and seven assists. Bossi led UNH and ranked seventh in America East in assists. Against nationally-ranked opponents, she recorded four assists and that included one against Stanford University in her last collegiate game – a conference tourney first round game. Bossi's other season highlights included a personal-best two assists in the final regular-season game against Dartmouth College. She was a key part of penalty corners, both offensively and defensively, including the stick-stop.
van den Brekel also started all 18 games and finished the season with seven goals and two assists for 16 points. She ranked second on the squad in both goals and points, and she recorded a team-high 40 shots. In the last five games, the sophomore midfielder recorded 12 points on six goals, including a career high of three against Dartmouth and another goal at Stanford in the first round of the conference tourney; the six points vs. the Big Green also marked a personal best. van den Brekel's other season highlights included a three-point effort against Bryant University.
New Hampshire finished the 2018 season with a 6-12 record overall that included wins against nationally-ranked University at Albany and University of Maine.
