'Cats Fight Off Three Match Points But Fall to Albany, 3-2

Wiedenfield Records Match-High 20 Kills, Patlovich Tallies Career-High 58 Assists
DURHAM, N.H. – Maddie Wiedenfeld (Omaha, Neb.) recorded a match-high 20 kills but the University of New Hampshire volleyball team was defeated 3-2 by the University at Albany in Sunday afternoon's America East matchup at Lundholm Gym.
The set scores were 25-23, 19-25, 25-15, 26-28, 18-16.
Wiedenfield recorded her 20 kills on a .298 hitting percentage and also had three blocks. Emma Patlovich (Forest Lake, Ill.) finished with a career-high 58 assists and Molly Wotton (Dover, N.H.) had a personal best of 14 kills on a .343 hitting percentage.
Kennedi Smith (The Woodlands, Texas) recorded her third consecutive double-double and 10th of the season with 14 kills and 18 digs. Emily Tanski (Plymouth, Mich.) and Logan Welti (Middleton, Wis.) finished with 24 and 20 digs, respectively.
Albany was led by Akuabata Okenwa (16 kills, 19 digs), Chloe Evering (13 kills, four blocks), Anderson Vaughan (48 assists) and Nicole Otero (32 digs).
The Great Danes fended off match points at 13-14 and 15-16 as UNH committed three consecutive attack errors to end the match.
UNH, which fought off a pair of match points in the fourth set and another in Set 5, is now 8-12 overall and 4-2 in America East. Albany is 10-8, 5-1.

SET 1
• There was one tie and no lead changes in the first set.
• Albany started its lead early with five consecutive points to start the match.
• UNH was able to close within 7-5 before the media timeout, at which point the Great Danes held their larges lead of the set, 15-7.
• UNH came back strong following the timeout with a kill by Hannah Petke (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) and Gabri Olhava (Mount Prospect, Ill.), as well as a service ace by Tanski, that helped shrink Albany's lead to 15-11.
• Trailing 21-16, the Wildcats came back strong and forced Albany to call a timeout with a lead of one only one point, 23-22.
• After the timeout, a block by Olhava lifted the Wildcats into a tie for the first time in the set at 23-23.
• The Great Danes were able to take the final two points on UNH attack errors, giving the visitors the set.
SET 2
· There were two ties and one lead change in the second set.
· UNH started strong and won five of the first seven points that included four straight points by the Wildcats.
· Albany closed within one point, 12-11, but UNH held onto its lead with consecutive kills from Olhava and Weidenfeld helping extend the advantage to 15-11.
· Leading 16-14, the Wildcats went on a 5-0 run to push the lead to 21-16.
· With the Wildcats obtaining the set point at 24-17, Albany scored the next two points, resulting in a timeout by the Wildcats, after which they were able to win the set on a kill by Olhava.
SET 3
· There were no ties or lead changes in the third set as Albany raced out to a 6-0 lead.
· Albany started off the third set with 6 straight points.
· A kill from Olhava put UNH on the board for the first time in the set, but the visitors opened up an 8-2 lead.
· UNH had a strong performance as the set continued. The Wildcats trimmed Albany's lead to 14-12, which forced the Great Danes to call a timeout.
· The visitors won the next two points as part of a 6-1 spurt that extended the advantage to 20-13.
· New Hampshire never got closer than six points the rest of the set.
SET 4
· There were 19 tie scores and five lead changes in the fourth set.
· Albany built an early 6-3 lead but UNH chipped away and leveled the set, 10-10.
· It was a back-and-forth set from there, as the score was tied every point from 11 through 22.
· The Great Danes won the next two points to earn set points at 24-22, but they committed an attack error on the next point and then Smith recorded a kill and a block to put UNH ahead, 25-24.
· The Wildcats also had set point at 26-25 and 27-26, when they closed it out on another kill by Smith.
SET 5
· There were nine ties and six lead changes in the decisive fifth set.
· Back-to-back kills from Smith and Wotton put the 'Cats up 8-6 heading into the media timeout.
· Trailing 10-7, Albany rallied to tie the score and surge in front 13-11.
· The Wildcats responded with kills by Wotton, a combined block by Olhava and Wiedenfeld and kill by Wiedenfeld to earn match point, 14-13.
· Albany won the next two points on kills by Grace Cozad to move within match point, 15-14.
· A kill by Wiedenfeld extended the match and an Albany ball handling error gave the 'Cats their second match point, 16-15.
· New Hampshire then committed three straight attack errors as Albany claimed the fifth set, 18-16.
