Olhava Tallies Match-High 17 Kills in 3-0 Win at UMass Lowell

LOWELL, Mass. – Gabri Olhava (Mount Prospect, Ill.) recorded a match-high 17 kills on a .455 hitting percentage to lead the University of New Hampshire volleyball team to Friday night's 3-0 victory against UMass Lowell at Costello Athletic Center. The set scores were 25-23, 25-18, 25-20.
Kennedi Smith (The Woodlands, Texas) finished with nine kills and eight digs. Olhava also contributed seven digs. Emma Patlovich (Lake Forest, Ill.) directed the Wildcats' offense to a .217 hitting percentage with 34 assists. Emily Tanski (Plymouth, Mich.) recorded a match-high 19 digs.
UML was led by Madi Bell (11 kills; .370 hitting percentage), Kate Bilyeu (10 kills; .233 hitting percentage). Lindsay Visvardis had a team-high 16 digs.
UNH, which has now won 11 consecutive sets in this series, improved to 9-12 overall and 5-2 in America East. UMass Lowell is 3-18, 1-6.

SET 1
- There were six ties and one lead change in the first set.
- UMass Lowell took the first two points, but UNH answered with two consecutive points to level the score.
- With the scored tied at 9, the Wildcats won three consecutive points to take a 12-9 lead that would not be relinquished.
- Trailing 20-16, the River Hawks went on a 3-0 run to close within one point.
- UNH called time out and won the next point on a UML attack error, then inched ahead on a block by Smith and service ace by Tanski.
- The River Hawks called a timeout and won back-to-back points to trim the deficit to 23-22.
- A kill by Smith gave the 'Cats set point and, one point later, a ball handling error by the home team closed out the set.
SET 2
- There were six ties and four lead changes in the second set.
- UNH took an early 4-1 lead but UMass Lowell answered with three consecutive points to tie the score.
- Trailing 7-5, the River Hawks went on a 4-0 run to take their first lead of the set, 9-7.
- The Wildcats trailed 13-12 when they won four consecutive points, including two kills by Maddie Wiedenfeld (Omaha, Neb.), to surge back in front.
- UMass Lowell narrowed the gap to 16-15, but the 'Cats pulled away with a 5-0 spurt that included two Olhava kills and three UML errors.
- UNH won four of the next seven points to close out the set and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
SET 3
- There were two ties and two lead changes in the third set. Both teams recorded the highest hitting percentage of the match with UNH at .382 and UML at .263.
- The home team jumped out to an early 4-1 lead.
- UNH closed within 7-5 and then three consecutive kills by Olhava ignited a 6-0 run that gave the 'Cats an 11-7 lead they would not relinquish.
- UMass Lowell inched within 16-14, but two more Olhava kills and a service ace by Jenny Weston (Canton, Mass.) extended the lead to 19-14.
- After the River Hawks won back-to-back points, UNH continued to pull away with a 4-0 run – two kills by Olhava sandwiched one by Patlovich – that gave the 'Cats a decisive23-16 advantage.
