Hopkins Repeats as America East Rookie of the Week

BOSTON – Josh Hopkins (Greensboro, N.C.), a freshman guard on the University of New Hampshire men's basketball guard, was named America East Rookie of the Week on Monday. It is the second consecutive week Hopkins received the accolade.
Hopkins was one of two UNH players to score in double figures with 13 points to help lead the Wildcats to a 64-61 home win against UAlbany at Lundholm Gym this past Saturday. He scored 10 points in the second half on 4 of 8 shooting, including 2-for-4 from 3-point range, to help the 'Cats fend off the Great Danes' late surge. Hopkins also had two assists and a rebound in 32 minutes off the bench.
He averaged 10.0 points, 1.5 rebounds and 29 minutes in two games last week. In the four-point road loss to UMBC (Jan. 3), Hopkins tallied seven points, two rebounds and a block in 26 minutes off the bench. He was a perfect 2-for-2 from the foul line.
In 16 games (eight starts) overall, Hopkins is averaging 8.3 points, 2.5 rebounds and 24.1 minutes per game. He is UNH's leader in both 3-point field goals made (32) and attempted (99), and he ranks third in scoring.
This is the third America East Rookie of the Week award for the Wildcats this season. Elijah Jordan (Orlando, Fla.) was feted Nov. 20.
