GAME RECAP
- UVM controlled play for a majority of the first period and transformed a scoreless game quickly into a 2-0 lead with goals 48 seconds apart at 14:45 and 15:33.
- Saana Valkama struck first when Hilary Cashin (Fredericton, New Brunswick) stopped Cassidy Campeau's initial shot from the right wing, but Valkama corralled the rebound on the left doorstep and deposited the puck into the open side of the cage.
- Moments later, Bridget Baker led a 2-on-1 rush down the left wing. Her saucer pass found the stick of Victoria Andreakos, who redirected the puck into the open right side of the cage.
- UNH closed within 2-1 at 7:30 of the second stanza. Amy Schlagel (Blaine, Minn.) initiated the scoring sequence by carrying the puck from the left corner to the high slot, where she blasted the puck through traffic. From the right doorstep, Devan Taylor (North Billerica, Mass.) pushed the puck to the top of the crease and Kate Haslett (Rothesay, New Brunswick) jammed a shot through Litchfield. Ali Praus (Long Lake, Minn.), standing at the right doorstep, lifted the loose puck under the crossbar.
- Vermont reestablished a two-goal lead, 3-1, at 10:07 of the third period when Valkama won the puck in the left corner and fed a pass in front to Eve-Audrey Picard, whose shot fluttered into the upper-right corner.
- Hannah Touzos (Foxboro, Mass.) scored her first career goal to once again make it a one-goal game, 3-2, at 14:49. Toews won the battle for the puck behind the net and slipped a pass to the low slot, where Curtis' initial shot was stopped. Touzos, in position near the left post, chipped the rebound into the cage.
- Curtis netted her milestone goal – the Wildcats' first shorthanded tally since the 2014-15 season – to tie the score 80 seconds later. Julia Fedeski (Algonquin Highlands, Ontario) chipped the puck along the boards from deep in the defensive zone and Toews sent it further along the boards to the neutral zone. Curtis raced onto the loose puck to create a breakaway down the left wing. She was hooked by a Catamount but maintained control of the puck while falling to the ice and slipped a shot into the cage for her 17th goal of the season and 50th of her career.
- Vermont recorded a 5-1 shot advantage in the scoreless five-minute extra session.
