The No. 12/12 UNH football team enters Saturday's game at Stony Brook with a 4-1 overall record that includes 1-1 on the road and 2-0 in the CAA. It's Homecoming for the Seawolves.
The Wildcats return to action after having an open week the first week of October. They defeated Bryant University, 45-17, at Wildcat Stadium on Sept. 30.
Spanning the 2004-16 seasons, UNH has a 6-9 record following an open week. Last year, the Wildcats defeated Stony Brook heading into the open week and then lost 36-25 to Albany on Senior Day. In 2015, the 'Cats lost 34-18 at No. 24 William & Mary. New Hampshire was 2-0 following an open week in the 2014 season, when UNH defeated both Lehigh University (45-27) and Stony Brook (28-20) at home.
New Hampshire has a 4-1 lifetime record, including 1-1 at LaValle Stadium, against Stony Brook. Last October, the Wildcats prevailed 43-14 vs. the 22nd-ranked Seawolves at Wildcat Stadium.
The last time these teams met at LaValle Stadium, SBU was a 31-6 victor in September 2015.
Nineteenth-year head coach Sean McDonnell recorded his 92nd career victory in CAA conference play Sept. 23 with UNH's 28 -14 win vs. URI at Wildcat Stadium. McDonnell's predecessor, Bill Bowes, is No. 3 at 97 career conference wins.
Junior wide receiver Neil O'Connor is No. 7 in the nation in all-purpose yards (149.2 per game). He ranks No. 4 in both receiving yards/game (127.6) and receptions per game (8.0), as well as No. 2 in receiving touchdowns (eight). O'Connor is also No. 4 in total TDs (eight).
Junior quarterback Trevor Knight is ranked in the top 25 in six national statistics, including 12th in passing TDs (13) and 19th in passing yards/game (267.0).
Stony Brook is No. 18 in the nation in total defense (293.8 yards/game), No. 19 in passing yards allowed (173.5 yards/game), No. 25 in scoring defense (19.2 points/game).
UNH scored a season-high 45 points against Bryant. The offense averaged 7.9 yards per play and 5.0 yards per rush, both of which are also single-game bests in the 2017 season.
Senior defensive tackle Rick Holt has recorded a tackle-for-loss every game this season.
Sophomore linebacker Quinlen Dean has made 44 total tackles and his 31 solo tackles are more than any other Wildcat has total tackles.
