Volleyball Home Opener Set Against Fresno State (August 29; 7 PM)

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire volleyball team is set for its home opener against Fresno State University on Monday, August 29 at 7 PM in Lundholm Gymnasium.

UNH heads to the Beantown Challenge tournament hosted by Harvard University and Boston College next weekend. New Hampshire will play Siena College on Friday, Sept. 2 at 1 PM in Cambridge, Mass. and then play Boston College on Saturday, Sept. 3 at 7:30 PM in Chestnut Hill, Mass. The Wildcats return home on Tuesday, Sept. 13 to host Harvard at 7 PM.

The Wildcats enter the home opener with a 1-2 record after defeating Coppin State University, 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-12) and falling to the University of Delaware, 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-19) and host school United States Naval Academy, 3-1 (25-17, 22-25, 25-19, 25-16) at the Kristen Dickmann Invitational in Annapolis, Md. Senior captain Keelin Severtson (Delray Beach, Fla.) was named to the All-Tournament team after posting 100 assists and 18 digs on the weekend headlined by 41 assists in the final game against Coppin State. Freshman Emily Tanski (Plymouth, Mich.) had a solid start to her collegiate career with 30 kills through three games.

Fresno State opened the year with two wins over LIU Brooklyn, 3-2, and Boston College, 3-0. The Bulldogs out-killed the opponents 114-82 with a .264 hitting percentage. Senior outside hitter Aleisha Coates tallied 27 kills in the two matches with a .167 kitting percentage. Middle blocker Lauren Torres notched a .333 hitting percentage with 22 kills (2.75 kills per set) to kick start her junior season.

Fresno State has a hold on the all-time series with two victories over the 'Cats in two matches. In 2014 the Wildcats fell 3-1 (25-23, 8-25, 16-25, 17-25) at a neutral site to the Bulldogs.
