Women’s Swimming & Diving in First Place After Second Day of AE Champs

WORCESTER, Mass. – The University of New Hampshire women's swimming & diving team remained in first place after the second day of the America East Championships held at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
WHAT HAPPENED
Sophomore Jessica Harper (Easthampton, Mass.) started off the second day by setting a new America East Conference and conference championship record in the grueling 500-yard freestyle as she clocked in to a time of four minutes, 48.29. Her time broke a record that had stood since 2009 and it was also an ECAC-A qualifying. Freshman Brittany Moffatt (Cedar Falls, Iowa) came in second place in the event with a time of 4:53.34 while Brittany Driscoll (Wallingford, Conn.) took bronze with a time of 4:53.75.
In the 50-yard freestyle, sophomore Liza Baykova (Moscow, Russia) blazed through the water to a time of 23.32 to earn the conference title in the event.
The quartet of Baykova, Harper, Driscoll and junior Sarah Broderick (Haverhill, Mass.) paced their way to a second-place result as they collectively swam an ECAC-A qualifying time of 1:34.21. Senior Bettina Caspersen (Lyngby, Denmark) took bronze in the 200-yard individual medley as she clocked in at 2:04.86.
