Belanger, Pogue Lead Women's Hoops In Loss At Albany

Albany, N.Y. – Senior guard Elizabeth Belanger (Acton, Mass.) scored 14 points and sophomore center Carlie Pogue (Cincinnati, Ohio) added a dozen in an 85-48 loss to the University at Albany in the SEFCU Arena on Thursday afternoon.
The Wildcats dropped to 8-16 overall and 2-9 in America East. Albany kept its league record perfect at 12-0 and improved to 21-3 overall. The Great Danes swept the season series from UNH.

HIGHLIGHTS
- Belanger also led UNH with six rebounds and Pogue had four.
- Pogue, limited by early foul trouble, played only 20 minutes.
- The Wildcats were perfect in their seven chances from the foul line.
- Belanger made her three free throws and Pogue and sophomore forward Morgan Bassett-Smith (Pickerington, Ohio) each made their two.
- Bassett-Smith and junior guard Kristen Anderson (Greene, Maine) each had six points off the bench and senior forward Stephanie Spoto (Pittsford, N.Y.) added four.
- A crowd of 3,016, mostly kids, turned out for the Education Day game that started at noon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Led by their senior standouts, 6-foot-1 forward Shereesha Richards and 5-foot-8 guard Imani Tate, the Great Danes showed why they have been able to run through America East undefeated thus far. Richards and Tate each had 26 points and four rebounds. Sophomore guard Zakiya Saunders had 11 of Albany's 17 assists.
The Great Danes led 21-12 after one period, pushed the lead to 46-22 at the half and upped it to 73-36 after three periods.
Belanger was five-for-eight from the field, Pogue was five-for-nine and freshman forward Ashley Storey (Cumberland, Maine) was three-for-six. The Wildcats were 19-for-53 (35.8 percent) overall from the field. Albany was 31-for-67 (46.3 percent).
