Knight, Defense Lead ’Cats to Win in Front of Record Crowd (21,943)

DURHAM, N.H. – Sophomore quarterback Trevor Knight (Amherst, N.H.) ran for one touchdown and passed for another and the defense turned in its best performance of the season to lead the University of New Hampshire football team to a 21-12 win over No. 19 William & Mary on Saturday in front of the largest crowd to ever watch a Wildcat home game.
Attendance for the Homecoming game in the new Wildcat Stadium was 21,943.
UNH improved to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the Colonial Athletic Association. William & Mary fell to 2-3 and 0-2.
Knight carried the ball 16 times for 95 yards and a 28-yard score. Senior running back Dalton Crossan (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) rushed 27 times for 98 yards and scored on a 1-yard run.
Senior linebacker Ryan Farrell (Westwood, Mass.) made a key interception early in the fourth quarter that helped the Wildcats take control of the game.

1st QUARTER
- The UNH offense settled down after turning the ball over on its first three possessions of the game with a fumble, interception and fumble.
- William & Mary's Kendell Anderson scored on a 36-yard run with 6:46 left in the first period to open the scoring.
- Kris Hooper's conversion kick was wide.
2ND QUARTER
- Knight scored on a nice 28-yard run with 4:37 left to get UNH on the board.
- He scrambled on a 4th and 9 and got to the left sideline for the first down and then cut back to the middle and raced into the end zone.
- Redshirt freshman Justin Malone-Woods (San Diego, Calif.) had a pair of key blocks on Knight's run.
- Sophomore Morgan Ellman (Scotch Plains, N.J.) kicked the conversion and UNH owned a 7-6 lead at the break.
- UNH had 162 yards of offense and William & Mary 105 in the first half.
3RD QUARTER
- The teams played a scoreless third quarter.
- William & Mary's Hooper missed a 35-yard field goal wide left with 5:30 left in the quarter.
- UNH owned a 10:22 to 4:38 edge in time of possession in the period.
4TH QUARTER
- Crossan scored on a 1-yd run to lift UNH's lead to 14-6 with 13:40 left in the fourth period.
- On William & Mary's next play, Farrell (Westwood, Mass.) intercepted a Cluley pass.
- The Wildcats took just six plays to add to their lead.
- Knight hit Anthony Pante (Manalapan, N.J.) for a 12-yard TD pass with 10:29 to play for 21-6.
- It was Pante's first career scoring catch.
- Daniel Kuzjak scored on a 9-yard pass from Cluley with 6:31 left to end the scoring. A conversion pass failed.
'CAT NIPS
- The Wildcats rushed for 252 yards in the game.
- They collected 370 total yards of offense.
- The UNH defense held William & Mary to just 235 yards of offense.
- Junior safety D'Andre Drummond-Mayrie (Lawrence, Mass.) led UNH with seven tackles.
- Senior linebacker DeVaughn Chollette (Scranton, Pa.) and redshirt freshman safety Michael Balsamo (Atkinson, N.H.) each had five tackles.
- Freshman cornerback Prince Smith, Jr. (Philadelphia, Pa.), junior defensive end Jae'Wuan Horton (Stafford, Va.) and sophomore linebacker Jared Kuehl (Plymouth, N.H.) each had a sack.
- Senior cornerback Casey DeAndrade (East Bridgewater, Mass.) also had an interception, his second of the season.
- Knight completed 13 of his 23 passes for 118 yards with a touchdown pass and an interception.
- Junior Trevon Bryant (St. Augustine, Fla.) rushed 11 times for 52 yards.
- Sophomore wide receiver Neil O'Connor (Leominster, Mass.) had four catches for 38 yards and redshirt freshman Malik Love (Alcoa, Tenn.) had four for 33 yards.
- Junior Max Pedinoff (Newtown, Pa.) averaged 47.7 yards on his three punts.
