New Hampshire enters Friday's game with a 3-2 overall record that includes 2-0 in the CAA and 1-2 on the road. The Wildcats travel to North Carolina on a two-game win streak following last Saturday's 21-12 Homecoming victory against (then No. 19/17) William & Mary at Wildcat Stadium.
The last time UNH kicked off on a Friday night was Dec. 12, 2014, when the Wildcats defeated Chattanooga, 35-30, in an NCAA quarterfinal game at Cowell Stadium. It was the third time in five years the 'Cats played a Friday postseason game; the previous two were losses at North Dakota State (2013 semifinals) and at Delaware (2010 quarterfinals).
Since World War II, Friday's game at Elon will be just the second time New Hampshire plays a regular-season game on a Friday. The only other time was Sept. 19, 1975, when the Wildcats were 21-20 victors at Boston University.
New Hampshire has won six consecutive CAA conference games.
Elon has a 2-3 overall record that includes 1-2 at home. Last weekend, the Phoenix were upended 42-7 by No. 14 Villanova at Rhodes Stadium; one week earlier, Elon recorded a 27-10 win on the road against (then No. 8) William & Mary.
The series between New Hampshire and Elon began just two years ago when the Phoenix joined the CAA. UNH recorded a 48-14 win at Rhodes Stadium in 2014 and last year the 'Cats prevailed 37-14.
UNH's defense allowed just one play longer than 20 yards last week vs. William & Mary – a 36-yard TD run by Kendell Anderson.
The Wildcats' D limited W&M quarterback Steve Cluley to 8 of 20 passing for 61 yards, one TD and two interceptions; and they sacked him three times.
Dalton Crossan is No. 10 in the nation in all-purpose yards per game (155.4). Crossan is also among the leaders in rushing yards at No. 18 (467).
Last week's Homecoming attendance of 21,943 at Wildcat Stadium marked the highest attendance for a UNH football home game in program history.
