HAMILTON, N.Y. – Sophomore Iba Camara (Dakar, Senegal) totaled a game-high 16 points and nine rebounds but the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team fell 75-59 to Colgate University, Sunday afternoon at Cotterell Court.
Camara shot 6 of 9 from the field and grabbed four offensive rebounds to pace the team. Junior Daniel Dion (Cedar Park, Texas) also scored 16 points, including four second-half 3-pointers, and totaled three rebounds and four assists.
The Wildcats fell to 6-4 on this season while the Raiders improved to 4-6 overall.
Colgate was led by Jordan Robertson who scored 15 points, 10 in the second half, on 6 of 8 shooting. Both Malcolm Regisford and Tom Rivard recorded 13 points as Regisford registered a double-double with 10 boards. Austin Tillotson tallied eight points and 10 rebounds on the afternoon. The bench outscored UNH, 22-8.
Colgate came out shooting in the first half, hitting 5 of 11 3-pointers led by Sean O'Brien with two. The Raiders hot shooting helped gain a 25-18 lead with 6:06 to play.
The Wildcats scored the next seven points with a sophomore Tanner Leissner (Converse, Texas) layup, Camara bucket and a senior Ronnel Jordan (San Antonio, Texas) 3-pointer, one of two in the first half. Leissner finished with eight points and seven rebounds.
After an offensive rebound by Alex Ramon for Colgate, Rivard buried a right-handed layup to take a two-point lead. With the clock winding down, junior Joe Bramanti (Andover, Mass.) received contact on the layup attempt. The ball bounced off the rim and was corralled by Camara for a put-back dunk, the final basket, with 15 seconds to play. Baskets were back and fourth with three ties in the opening half.
UNH held the lead, 40-38, at the 13:43 mark of the second stanza off of five Wildcats recording points. Ramon nailed a 3-pointer to kick off a 11-0 run to lead 49-40 with 10:52 to play. The Wildcats' Dion hit a three to inch within six, but that was the closest they would come to narrowing the deficit.
New Hampshire has five days off before taking on intrastate rival Dartmouth College on Saturday, Dec. 19 (1 p.m.) to begin the final three games of non-conference play.
