Goerigk Scores as Men's Soccer Tops Colgate, 1-0

BURLINGTON, Vt. – Sophomore back Lukas Goerigk (Berlin, Germany) recorded his first-career goal in the 37th minute as the University of New Hampshire men's soccer team edged Colgate, 1-0, Sunday afternoon.
The win improves the Wildcats to 3-1-0 on the year while Colgate falls to 0-4-0 overall.
Aaron Smith (Loudon, N.H.) started the offensive attack for the Wildcats with a blast in the seventh minute of play. The attempt was saved by Colgate goalie Ricky Brown. Later in the half, Jesus Tudela (Zaragoza, Spain) placed a corner kick into the box that found Goerigk in stride. Goerik rocketed a one-time blast into the back of the net to give the Wildcats a 1-0 advantage.
Colgate came out in the second half with a flurry of offense. Barrett Metzger placed a shot on net, but Wildcat goalie Travis Worra (Lancaster, Pa.) stood his ground and made the save.
In the 87th minute, Evan Heroux ripped a shot at Worra that he knocked wide and out of bounds. Through 90 minutes of play, the combination of Worra and defense by the 'Cats helped preserve a 1-0 victory for New Hampshire.
Worra made saves on each of the three shots he faced, earning his first shutout of the year. His record improves to 2-1-0. Brown made three saves on four shots he faced by UNH, giving him the loss. His record drops to 0-3-0.
