FIELD HOCKEY'S FOUR-GAME WIN STREAK ENDS AT 12TH-RANKED DUKE, 7-1

– Katherine Nagengast (Westborough, Mass.)
made nine saves – one less than her career high – but
the University of New Hampshire field hockey team was defeated 7-1
by 12th-ranked Duke University on Sunday afternoon at Williams
Field.
UNH, which entered the game with a four-game winning streak, is now
5-3 with all three losses to nationally-ranked teams. Duke, behind
Amie Durvilla's four-goal effort and three goals by Susan
Ferger, improved to 5-4.
The Blue Devils built an early two-goal lead on tallies by Ferger
at 4:19 and Survilla at 8:05. Survilla struck again 28 seconds
apart – at 26:42 and 27:10 – to quickly extend the
advantage to 4-0.
Duke carried that four-goal lead, as well as a 11-4 shot advantage
and 5-1 edge in penalty corners, into the second half.
UNH opened the second-half scoring at 43:32 when Hayley
Rausch (Severna Park, Md.), with the assistance of
Meg Shea (Melrose, Mass.), scored her fourth goal
of the year. With the assist, Shea extended her point-scoring
streak to eight games.
Ferger struck again at 52:03 and Survilla's fourth goal of
the game in the 62nd minute gave the home team a 6-1 lead. Ferger
closed the scoring with 2:27 remaining.
Duke goalie Micaela Patterson was credited with three saves.
The Blue Devils finished with a 30-9 shot advantage and a 10-3 edge
in corners.
New Hampshire returns to action Oct. 3 at home for its America East
opener against the University of Maine. Game time at Memorial Field
is 2 p.m.
