VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO ALBANY, 3-0

DURHAM, N.H. – Senior Kirsten
Bates (Calgary, Alberta) tallied a team-high 14 kills,
however the University of New Hampshire volleyball team dropped an
America East match to Albany, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon at Lundholm
Gymnasium.
Set scores were 25-23, 25-23 and 25-14. The Wildcats fall to 8-11
overall, 0-2 in America East, while the Great Danes improve to
10-8, 1-0 AE.
In addition Bates, Lindsay Fogarty (Pleasanton,
Calif.) tallied 12 kills and added three blocks. Setter
Kate Uitti (Pinckney, Mich.) dished out 29 assists
and added nine digs. Sophomore Sara Heldman
(Greenwood, Ind.) notched 22 digs, while Jayde
Huxtable (St. Charles, Ill.) added 12.
In the first set, the Albany jumped out to an early 10-4 lead. The
Great Danes led it 20-14 before five-straight Wildcat points made
it 20-19. The teams traded points creating a 23-23 deadlock, until
a pair of UNH attack errors gave Albany the first set, 25-23. The
second set was back and forth with neither team holding a lead of
more than two throughout. In the end, once again, with the set tied
at 23-23 the Great Danes pulled out the victory by scoring the
final two points of the set. Both teams hit at a .200 clip in the
set, while UNH registered 17 kills. In the third and final set,
Albany sprinted out to a 7-1 lead. New Hampshire rallied with an
11-4 run to make it 12-11 Wildcats. The Danes went on a 6-0 run of
their own to make it 17-12. UNH would chip into the lead, but come
not come all the way back as Albany won the final set by 11.
Today's match was UNH's “Dig Pink” Breast
Cancer Awareness event. Contributions were taken at the game to
raise funds to support Breast Cancer education programs and
research efforts. These contributions will assist Side-Out in its
on going mission to raise money and awareness about Breast
Cancer.
UNH returns to action when it travels to UMBC Friday, Oct. 9 (7
p.m.). New Hampshire's next home match is Sat. Oct. 17; start
