VOLLEYBALL FALLS IN FIVE SETS TO STONY BROOK, 3-2

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Lindsay Fogarty
(Pleasanton, Calif.) led three players with double-figure kills,
however the University of New Hampshire volleyball team was
defeated by Stony Brook University, 3-2, Sunday afternoon at
Pritchard Gymnasium. The loss is the second-straight five-set loss
for the Wildcats, who move to 8-13 overall, 0-4 in America East.
Stony Brook is now 10-8, 2-0 AE. The set scores were 25-17, 16-25,
22-25, 25-17 and 15-13.
Fogarty registered 20 kills and hit at a .356 hitting percentage,
while Taylor Dressing (Gillette, N.J.) and
Kirsten Bates (Calgary, Alberta) tallied 17 and
14, respectively. Dressing hit at a .389 mark and added four
blocks. Kate Uitti (Pinckney, Mich.) setup the
Wildcat offense with 47 assists and added 16 digs, while
Sara Heldman (Greenwood, Ind.) had a team-high 26
digs.
In the opening set the teams were tied at 3-3 before a 7-1 Stony
Brook run made it 10-4. New Hampshire would cut into the lead but
got no closer than four in the remainder of the set. The Seawolves
hit at a .273 clip with 12 kills. In the second set, the teams
battled even in the early going with the set tied at 9-9 until a
10-3 UNH run gave the Wildcats a 19-12 advantage. SBU fought back
to within four at 20-16, but would get no closer in a 25-16 set win
for New Hampshire. UNH hit at an impressive .382 clip with 16 kills
in the set. The third set Stony Brook went out to a 7-3 lead. New
Hampshire responded with four-straight to tie it at 7-7. The
Seawolves slowly built a 20-14 advantage by scoring 13 of the next
20 points. However, UNH fought back with an impressive 11-2 run to
come-from-behind to earn the third set. The run included three
service aces by Dick. The Wildcats hit at a .355 clip with just two
hitting errors in the third set. Stony Brook captured the fourth
set by jumping out to a 13-6 lead and holding off a New Hampshire
charged that included the Wildcats cut it to 17-15. The Seawolves
had 17 kills in the set and hit at a .295 clip to force a fifth
set. In the final set, the teams were knotted at 4-4 until
three-straight Seawolves points made it 7-4. New Hampshire evened
the scored a 9-9 only to see Stony Brook regain a 12-9 lead. SBU
led it 14-11, but UNH was able to break match-point twice before
eventually dropping the final set and the match, 15-13.
