Sam Scott

Sam Scott joined the University of New Hampshire football staff in January 2026 as the Defensive Line Coach. A 2024 West Chester University Football Hall of Fame inductee, Scott brings more than eight years of collegiate coaching experience and a six-year professional playing career to the Wildcats. Â
Prior to UNH, Scott oversaw the defensive line at Robert Morris University for the 2025 season, where the Colonials finished 4th in the conference in sacks.
Scott spent the 2023 and 2024 seasons at Temple University, the latter as Assistant Director of Player Personnel. During his time with Temple, Scott helped prepare the defensive linemen for success both on and off the field. He also aided in the recruitment, managing nationwide recruiting efforts through film evaluations, on-the-road visits, as well as assisting with the execution of on-campus visits.  Scott helped mentor and develope 2024 Second Team All-AAC DE Diwun Black, who participated in the 2025 FBS Tropical Bowl before being signed by the Baltimore Ravens; he currently plays for the Montreal Alouettes (CFL).
Prior to Temple, Scott served as the defensive line coach at West Chester University from 2020-22 after handling the defensive ends from 2018-19. His leadership transferred the unit into a national powerhouse. During those five seasons, he developed three All-Americans (Diquan Gilbert ’18, Ch’aim Smith ’19, Michael Gabora ’21) and 10 all-conference players, including 2025 national championship participant with University of Miami, David Blay (WCU ’21-’22). He also developed 2019 Cliff Harris Award Finalist Ch’aim Smith, who finished the season with 20.5 TFLs and 8.5 sacks. In 2018, WCU won the PSAC conference championship, led all D-II schools in sacks (50) and was second nationally in rushing defense (67.5 ypg).Â
Additionally, Scott served as a performance coach at Titus Sports Academy training and developing high school, college and professional players (NFL Players - Darnell Savage, Troy Reeder, Brian O’Neill, Doug Costin, Gary Brightwell, Jordan Swann, Silas Stewart).
The Yeadon, Pa., native was a standout dual sport athlete as an undergraduate at West Chester, where he played as an outside linebacker on the football team and power forward for the basketball team. On the gridiron, he was a three-time all-conference (’07, ’08, ’09), two-time All-ECAC (’08, ’09), and all-region player (’09), as well as 2009 All-American (Honorable Mention). Scott holds the Cactus Bowl record with 14 tackles and was named the game’s Defensive MVP.
Scott played six seasons (2011-2016) of professional football as a defensive end in the Canadian Football League (Calgary, Hamilton, Winnipeg) and the Arena Football League (Philadelphia Soul).Â
Scott and his wife, Chantal, have two sons, Sam III and Cannon.
