Cathleen 'Cathy' Coakley enters herfifth year as UNH’s Coordinator of Student-AthleteDevelopment in 2012-13.
Coakley spearheads a comprehensiveeducational program to enhance the personal development and welfareof the University’s student-athletes. Coakley works withseveral other areas of student-athlete development, including theStudent-AthleteAdvisory Committee (SAAC), first-year student-athletelifeskills education, community service activities involving UNHstudent-athletes, and four-year leadership curriculum for thestudent-athletes. In addition, she has established – and willcontinue to establish – networks and act as a liaison withcampus departments and constituencies.
Coakley has an extensive career inboth athletics and higher education. Before her return toUNH, she was an instructor of Sports Marketing in theKinesiology Department at James Madison University and coordinatedall practicum and internships required of Sport Management majors.In that position, Coakley taught personal and professionaldevelopment as well as life skills to the students (includingathletes) within the major. While at JMU, she served as AssistantField Hockey coach from 2005-07 and helped guide the Dukes to theCAA championship and NCAA tournament appearance in 2007.
Prior to her tenure at JMU, Coakleyworked in collegiate basketball. She started her collegiatecoaching career at UNH as an assistant under Cecelia DeMarco from1977-79. Coakley moved on to become head coach at FordhamUniversity from 1979-84 and served as an assistant under JoyMalchodi at Northeastern University from 1996-2000. The Huskies wonthe America East championship in 1999, advancing to the NCAATournament.
Coakley earned her Bachelor'sDegree in Earth Science and her Master's Degree in EducationAdministration at UNH.
