Service Credit Union Student-Athletes of the Week: Shya Walker and Nick Reed

DURHAM, N.H. – Grad student forward Ricshya Walker (Philadelphia, Pa.) of the University of New Hampshire women's soccer team and sophomore kicker Nick Reed (Harrison, N.Y.) of the UNH football team were named the Service Credit Union Student-Athletes of the Week on Sept. 10.
Shya Walker posted two goals and two assists for six points on the week as the Wildcats went 1-0-1. She recorded one goal and one assist in the 4-3 win versus Merrimack on Sept. 3 as she assisted on UNH's second goal of the game and scored UNH's third goal of the contest. Then in the 2-2 tie at Stony Brook on Sept. 7 with the Wildcats trailing 2-0 in the second half, Shya posted an assist on UNH's first goal then she tied the game in the 61st minute. She leads the team with three goals and eight points on the season.
The UNH women's soccer team returns to action Sept. 14 (1 p.m.) at Harvard. The Wildcats' next home game is Sept. 21 (2 p.m.) against Southern Maine.
Nick Reed made four field goals, including a game-winning 40-yard kick as time expired, to lift UNH to a 19-16 win in the team's home opener against Holy Cross at Wildcat Stadium on Sept. 6. Nick had tied the game, 16-16, at 9:13 of the fourth quarter when his career-long 50-yard field goal capped a 6-play, 41-yard drive.
Nick received both conference and national awards as he was named CAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week and Sports Perform FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week.
His first point of the game – a PAT kick on UNH's second possession of the game – gave the Wildcats a 7-6 lead.
In the second quarter, he foreshadowed what was to come when he made a 33-yard field goal on the last play of the half to send the Wildcats into the locker room with a 10-9 lead. Nick's 30-yard field goal extended UNH's lead to 13-9 at 2:05 of the third quarter.
