Gabby DeAngelis '26G to represent Team USA at World Skyrunning Championships

DURHAM, N.H. – Gabby DeAngelis '26G has earned the opportunity to represent Team USA at the 2026 World Skyrunning Championships held Sept. 18-20 at Trail Gomera Paradise on the volcanic island of La Gomera in the Canary Islands, Spain.
DeAngelis, a native of Bedford, N.H., graduated from UNH this past spring with a master's degree in Environmental Engineering. Since then, she pursued mountain running to become 1 of 3 members of the U.S. Skyrunning World Championship Team. DeAngelis will compete in both the VERTICAL and SKY disciplines.
World titles and 27 medals are at stake for individuals and teams, including a combined title for the best results of the VERTICAL and SKY races. The VERTICAL competition, with a distance of 4.9 kilometers and 950m vertical climb, is Sept. 18. The SKYULTRA is 62k long with a 4,400m vertical climb on Sept. 19, and then the SKY race is Sept. 20 with a 1,900m vertical climb spanning 29k.
Skyrunning is a subsection of mountain running that leans into technicality and elevation gain enroute to the summit.
DeAngelis was a member of the UNH women's cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field in the 2024-25 academic year. It was her last year of eligibility following a four-year career on the Siena College women's soccer team.
She maximized her one year as a Wildcat student-athlete. DeAngelis helped the UNH cross country team win both the America East conference and New England championship titles in 2024 by racing to fifth place at New Englands and eighth at America East.
Then in the indoor track & field season, DeAngelis took second place in the 800m at the New England championships and ran a leg of UNH's winning distance medley relay team. Earlier in the season, the DMR placed second at the conference meet.
DeAngelis became a 3,000m steeplechase specialist in the 2025 outdoor track & field season as she won the event at three meets – UNH Jim Boulanger Invitational, UMass Lowell George Davis Invitational and New England Championships. She was runner-up in the steeplechase at the America East Championships, where she also was a member of the winning 4x800m relay team.
Taking you "from hell to heaven" as the Gomera Paradise motto says, the location is truly unique. Of volcanic origin, the island measures only 22k in diameter with a mountainous skyline reaching 1,487m. It is situated in the North Atlantic, southwest of the island of Tenerife.
The World Skyrunning Championships are a biennial event. At the most recent event in 2024, 310 athletes from a record 41 countries competed.
