DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire Department of Athletics announced a record-breaking total impact of more than $1 million for its athletic teams and nearly 500 Wildcat student-athletes during The (603) Challenge, the University's annual fundraising event that ran from April 8-11.
Nearly 3,200 UNH Athletics donors participated to make a difference. Generous donors and alumni answered the call and, for the first time in the history of the Challenge, each program hit an area challenge of $2,500 or more.
"We are appreciative of the collective efforts of so many Wildcat supporters that propelled us to our best (603) Challenge yet," said Allison Rich, UNH Director of Athletics. "This helps us provide our student-athletes with the resources they need to be the best they can be both at UNH and when they graduate from this special place. We thank everyone for making this year unforgettable and for helping us develop Wildcats for Life."
UNH Athletics' efforts accounted for 24% of the $3.6 million raised by the UNH community – not including university matching or bonus funds.
The football program led the charge, setting a new fundraising benchmark with an impressive $260,000 raised through generous in-challenge donations and underwriter gifts.
Skiing led the pack in donor support, rallying 700-plus donors in a remarkable show of participation.
Under the leadership of first-year head coach Megan Shoniker, the women's basketball team saw a stunning 183% increase in funds raised compared to last year, totaling over $50,000 with matching funds and bonus funds—an extraordinary leap forward for the program.
There is still time to make a gift to positively impact the UNH student-athlete experience prior to June 30 by visiting unhwildcats.com/development.
