Ring posts four points and Oliver scores two goals
TROY, N.Y. – Junior forward Nick Ring (Hingham, Mass.) posted four points with one goal and three assists, while freshman forward Sam Oliver (Saint John, New Brunswick) scored two goals as the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team defeated RPI, 6-3, on Friday night at Houston Field House in non-conference action.
Freshman defenseman Ryan Philbrick (Concord, N.Y.) and freshman forward Félix Gagnon (Jonquière, Quebec) each recorded one goal and one assist for two points, while senior forward Kristaps Skrastins (Grobina, Latvia) and senior forward Cy LeClerc (Brentwood, N.H.) tallied two assists.
Senior goalie Kyle Chauvette (Goffstown, N.H.) made 22 saves to earn the win.
The Wildcats improve to 5-5-0, while the Engineers fall to 2-9-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead just 1:13 after the opening faceoff as Gagnon sent a wrist shot stick side from the right faceoff circle off a pass from Ring.
- The Engineers tied the game at 10:07 of the first period when Kazimier Sobieski blasted a one-timer from the left faceoff circle to the upper stick side corner of the net for the power play goal.
- UNH went out to a 2-1 advantage with a power play goal on a backhander by sophomore forward Cam MacDonald (Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia) at 15:19. Ring and junior defenseman Brendan Fitzgerald (North Reading, Mass.) each posted an assist.
- Then with only 17.8 seconds remaining in the first period, Oliver netted his first collegiate goal as he snuck the puck by Bruno Bruveris stick side from the left faceoff circle. Skrastins and LeClerc each recorded an assist on the goal.
- RPI cut the deficit to 3-2 when Mathieu Bourgault tipped in a shot by Thomas Klassek at 12:35 of the second period.
- The Engineers tied the contest at 3:13 of the third period when Trevor Russell scored on a wrist shot.
- Philbrick gave the 'Cats a 4-3 lead at 11:01 when he rocketed a shot from the slot to the back of the net. Ring recorded his third assist of the game on the goal.
- Then at 13:16, Oliver knocked in a rebound off a shot by Skrastins to increase the lead to 5-3. LeClerc also tallied an assist.
- The Wildcats concluded the scoring with an empty net goal by Ring at 17:08 with assists by Gagnon and Philbrick for the 6-3 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- UNH outshot RPI, 31-25.
- Each team went 1-4 on the man-advantage.
- Chauvette posted 22 saves for UNH, while Bruveris recorded 12 saves and Nate Krawchuk.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- The Wildcats are now 29-24-0 all-time versus RPI and have won five straight in the series.
- Oliver's goals were the first of his collegiate career.
- Gagnon now leads the team with five goals.
- The game winner by Philbrick was his second of the season.
- The four points for Ring were a career-high and he tallied his sixth career multi-point game.
