Toscano Named to FCS Athletics Directors Association Academic All-Star Team

CLEVELAND – Grad student linebacker Ryan Toscano (Bedford, N.H.) of the 19th-ranked University of New Hampshire football team was named to the 27th Annual Academic All-Star Team by the Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association on Tuesday.
Toscano entered the 2024 season with a 3.95 GPA while pursuing a Masters Business Administration, Finance degree. He earned a BS degree in Business Administration: Finance and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a 3.78 GPA.
Toscano was UNH's top tackler for the third consecutive year with 118 in the 2024 season, and that total ranked 16th in the nation as well as fifth in the CAA. He ranked 25th nationally and third in the conference with 9.1 tackles per game.
His 77 assisted tackles led both the team and the CAA, and he ranked second on the team with 41 solo stops. Toscano ranked third in both tackles for loss (7.0) and sacks (4.0). His other stats included three pass breakups, three quarterback hurries and a fumble recovery.
Toscano was the Wildcats' leading tackler in 6 of 13 games, including each of the last four with 57 tackles in that span. The linebacker capped his career with a personal-best 18 tackles in the NCAA first round game to best his previous high of 17 established two games earlier against nationally-ranked Stony Brook. In between, Toscano made 11 stops in the regular-season finale at Maine.
Including each of the last four games, Toscano recorded 10+ tackles six times and that included 10 in the opener at FBS school UCF. He made a tackle for loss in 7 of 13 games.
Toscano was a Second Team All-CAA honoree by the conference and also garnered Phil Steele All-CAA Second Team recognition.
Toscano finished his career with 331 tackles in 53 games to tie for No. 6 on the program's all-time leaderboard with Hugo Souza (2007-10). His other stats included 18 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, 13 pass breakups, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
Toscano is one of only 54 student-athletes to receive this accolade. He is one of 12 linebackers honored and one of the 16 grad students selected; seven grad student linebackers, including Toscano, were named to the Academic All-Star Team
Football players from all FCS teams are eligible. Nominees are required to have a 3.20 or higher cumulative GPA as a graduate or undergraduate, completed at least one full academic year at the nominated institution, been a starter or key player with legitimate athletic credentials, and participated in at least 50 percent of games played at the designated position.
A special Review Committee comprised of five FCS athletics directors selected this year's Academic All-Star Team.
The No. 19/24 UNH football team won the last four games of the regular season to earn an at-large invitation and 16th seed in the FCS playoffs, where the Wildcats lost in the first round to No. 23/20 UT Martin.
