'Cats Earn First Conference Win, Defeat UMBC 56-39

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire women's basketball team defeated UMBC, 56-39, on Thursday evening at Lundholm Gym to secure its first America East victory of the season.
Sophomore guard Eva DeChent (Westchester, N.Y.) led the Wildcats with 24 points, two assists, and two steals. Senior forward Belen Morales Lopez (Alicante, Spain) added 13 points, seven rebounds, and four assists, while sophomore guard Maggie Cavanaugh (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.) gave the 'Cats three double-digit scorers with 11 points, four rebounds, two assists, and one steal.
The Wildcats improve to 7-11 overall (1-4 America East), while the Retrievers fall to 7-8 (0-3).

- UNH closed the quarter on a 7-0 run, taking a 27-12 lead at halftime.
- The 'Cats held UMBC to just three points in the frame.

- Two free throws from DeChent gave UNH a 20-point advantage (38-18) at the 4:18 mark.
- UMBC responded with a 12-6 run, cutting the Wildcats' lead to 44-30 after three.

- UNH opened the quarter on a 9-1 run, capped by a Morales Lopez layup, to give UNH its largest lead of the game (53-31) at the 6:32 mark.
- The Wildcats maintained control to close out the 56-39 victory.

- UNH shot .377 (20-for-53) from the field and .286 (6-for-21) from three, while UMBC shot .341 (14-for-41) overall and .188 (3-for-16) from downtown.
