Service Credit Union Student-Athletes of the Week: Hedda Martelleur and Sami Pissis

DURHAM, N.H. – Junior Hedda Martelleur (Uppsala, Sweden) of the University of New Hampshire ski team and junior Sami Pissis (Paris, France) of men's basketball team were named the Service Credit Union Student-Athletes of the Week on Jan. 15.
Hedda recorded a pair of podium finishes in the EISA season opener at Bates Carnival on Jan. 10-11 to lead UNH to a third-place finish. On opening day, she recorded the second-fastest time in Run 2 of the giant slalom (1 minute, 15.46 seconds) to climb into a tie for third place overall with a combined time of 2:35.27.
Hedda bested that effort with second place in the slalom. She once again excelled in Run 2, where she was the only alpine skier to go sub-52 seconds (51.94) to finish with a combined time of 1:45.37.
Hedda earned 89.5 of the team's 759.5 points in the two-day carnival. She also earned a total of 140 NCAA points for herself with a split of 80 in the slalom and 60 in the giant slalom.
The UNH ski team returns to action Jan. 16-18 at the St. Lawrence Carnival. Alpine races will be held at Whiteface Mountain while Nordic events will be held at Mount Van Hoevenberg.
Sami averaged 23.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.5 assists per game to lead UNH to a 1-1 record last week that included a 79-72 win against Binghamton University on Jan. 11. He made 16 of 33 field goal attempts (48.5%) that included 7 of 16 (43.8%) from 3-point range.
The junior guard scored a season-high 30 points – his fifth 20+ point game of the season – on 9 of 18 shooting from the floor, including 4-for-9 on 3-pointers, and 8 of 13 from the foul line in the win vs. the Bearcats, he also had a team-high five assists, three rebounds and a steal.
In the 61-57 loss to UAlbany, Sami scored a team-high 17 points; his other stats included three rebounds two steals and an assist.
The men's basketball team returns to action Jan. 16 (6 p.m.) at UMBC. The Wildcats' next home game is Jan. 23 (7 p.m.) against Bryant University. CLICK HERE to buy tickets.
