Kelly Kaufmann Records Career High .769 Hitting Percentage

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire volleyball team defeated Merrimack 3-1 on Tuesday.

The set scores were 25-20, 25-16, 21-25, 25-18.

Junior right-side hitter Meredith Hohnbaum (Indianapolis, Ind) led UNH's attack with 13 kills and 16 points. Graduate student middle blocker Kelly Kaufmann (Raleigh, N.C.) was next up with 11 kills and 13 points; She also recorded a career-high .769 hitting percentage. UNH used two primary setters as sophomore Jessica Shattles (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) led the 'Cats with 29 assists and freshman Ellery Singleton (Menlo Park, Calif). Shattles also led the team with 14 digs.

UNH returns to action on Friday, Sept. 27 when they host La Moyne College at 6 p.m.

SET 1

UNH came out of the gates hot with a 5-1 lead thanks to two kills from Hohnbaum and one ace from Graduate Student outside hitter Hannah Serbousek (Fort Collins, Colo.).
Merrimack started to catch up to the Wildcats with an 8-5 run but that was shut down quickly with a kill by Sophomore middle blocker Rachel Grier (Dublin, Calif.) that put the 'Cats up 11-9.
Merrimack continued to Volley for a bit but Hohnbaum quickly shut that down with the kill (14-13).
Back-to-back kills from UNH by Hohnbaum and Grier gave the Wildcats an 18-15 lead.
The Wildcats did not trail in the set and ended the first set 25-20 to go up 1-0 in the match.

SET 2

UNH started with an early 3-0 lead thanks to a kill from Kaufmann and Merrimack errors.
Kills by Grier and Serbousek helped maintain the score at 8-5.
Merrimack battled back and recorded an ace to tie the Wildcats at 8 but UNH responded with 4 straight points which ended in a kill by senior right-side hitter Marisa Armer (Bradenton, Fla.) (12-8).
The 'Cats once again maintained their lead and went up 2-0 in the match. Set two ended 25-16 with a kill by junior outside hitter Millie Grove (Warrington, Pa.).

SET 3

The Wildcats and Warriors went back and forth early on in the 3rd set (7-6). Merrimack pulled ahead to take their first lead of the match at 13-8.
UNH battled back to make their 17-12 deficit as close as 22-21 but were never able to take the lead as Merrimack won the set 25-21.
- Kaufmann recorded 4 kills this set as well as two kills by Hohnbaum and Grier.

Set 4

UNH trailed early on in the match but tied it up with an ace by Singleton. Followed by a long rally that ended in a kill by Grier (7-4) UNH.
A 7-1 run by the Wildcats forced Merrimack to take a timeout. In that run Serbousek and Senior outside hitter Ezgi Karabulut (Ankara, Turkey) recorded two kills (12-6).
UNH took their largest lead of the night after Avery LePore recorded two aces with a score of 21-11.
The Wildcats won the match 25-18 with a kill by junior outside hitter Lindsey Kriendler (Houston, Texas).
