Volleyball Defeats CCSU 3-0 in Their Second Match of the Holly Young Invitational

Katie Smith Records First Ace as a Wildcat
DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire volleyball team swept CCSU 3-0 on Saturday in their second match of the Holly Young Invitational.
The set scores were 25-14, 25-18, 25-20.
Graduate student middle blocker Kelly Kaufmann (Raleigh, N.C.) led UNH's attack with eight kills and 10 points. Junior right-side hitter Meredith Hohnbaum (Indianapolis, Ind) was next up with seven kills and nine points. Sophomore setter Jessica Shattles (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) led the 'Cats with 17 assists. Junior libero/defensive specialist Avery LePore (Franklin, Tenn) led with 11 digs.

- Wildcats kicked off the match with a strong start, with a Shattles service ace and a kill by Hohnbaum.
- Kills by Kaufmann, senior right-side hitter Marisa Armer (Bradenton, Fla.) and outside hitter Hannah Serbousek (Fort Collins, Colo.) kept them ahead along with another ace by Shattles. (15-9).
- Kaufmann ended an intense rally with a kill and UNH scored three consecutive points to force CCSU to call a timeout.
- UNH stood their ground, winning the set 25-14 with a kill from junior outside hitter Lindsey Kriendler (Houston, Texas).
- The Wildcats continued their momentum with a 4-point run, including a block by Kaufmann, and kills from Hohnbaum, Kaufmann, and junior outside hitter Millie Grove (Warrington Pa.).
- CCSU crept back up leaving the score tied at nine, but UNH came back strong with back-to-back kills from Armer, Serbousek, Kaufmann, and Hohnbaum, forcing CCSU to call a timeout.
- UNH continued to battle as they held the lead.
- Freshman setter Reilly Garrity (Chicago, Ill.) served an ace making the score 20-13, resulting in another timeout from CCSU.
- Freshman libero Katie Smith (Indianapolis, Ind.) joined the match, making it her second match played as a Wildcat, and recorded her first ace.
- Serbousek ended the set with a kill (25-18).
- CCSU tied up the beginning of the set with a service ace and took the lead making the score 4-5.
- UNH battled back as they scored three consecutive points with kills by Kriendler and Armer.
- CCSU began to creep up but UNH held their ground making it 15-11, followed by a timeout.
- The Wildcats were right back in it after the timeout, with Serbousek tallying back-to-back aces.
- After a second timeout, kills by senior outside hitter Shea Purcell (Shaker Heights, Ohio) and senior right side hitter Nadia Goich (Homer Glen, Ill) closed off a UNH Wildcat win. (25-20).
