Serbousek Surpasses 1,000 Career Points

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Senior captain hitter Hannah Serbousek (Fort Collins, Colo.) surpassed 1,000 career points as the University of New Hampshire volleyball team fell 3-2 to Texas A&M on Friday.

The set scores were 19-25, 16-25, 25-23, 25-22, 14-16.

Serbousek led UNH's attack with a season-high 16 kills for 19 points, she also recorded a team-high 14 digs. Junior right-side hitter Meredith Hohnbaum (Indianapolis, Ind.) was next up with nine kills and 11 points on a .321 hitting percentage. Sophomore Jessica Shattles (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) recorded a career-high 33 assists.

SET 1

The Wildcats tied the score four times but never led in set one.
Junior libero/defensive specialist Avery LePore (Franklin, Tenn.) recorded an ace, Serbousek recorded a block and a kill, graduate student middle blocker Kelly Kaufmann (Raleigh, N.C.) recorded two kills and a block, and Grier recorded a kill and a block.
UNH fought hard toward the end of the set sticking with Texas A&M 22-19 but the Aggies prevailed to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

SET 2

The Aggies continued their success into the second set coming out with a 3-0 lead. Several errors, a kill from senior outside hitter Ezgi Karabulut (Ankara, Turkey), and a block by Hohnbaum and Kaufmann kept the 'Cats in it as they trailed 7-6.
UNH was never able to catch Texas A&M the rest of the set as they ran away with a 25-16 final score.
Hohnbaum and Karabulut recorded two kills and sophomore middle blocker Rachel Grier (Dublin, Calif.) tallied an ace and a kill.

SET 3

The 'Cats flipped the script and came out firing in the third set. They started out on a 12-3 run with a stretch of eight straight points.
Serbousek and Kafumann got the scoring started with a block. Serbousek knocked down another kill before Kaufmann recorded back-to-back blocks with Karabulut on the first, and Hohnbaum on the second. That trio tallied the same order of blocks two points later.
UNH called their first timeout of the set after the Aggies began to trim the deficit to 14-8.
The Aggies scored two points out of the time out but UNH was able to counter every time Texas A&M scored from there (18-12).
- Kills from senior captain Marisa Armer (Bradenton, Fla.) and Kaufmann.
Texas A&M brought it to a four-point game multiple times from there but the 'Cats responded with a kill from Grier and Karabulut to go up 20-15.
Two Serbousek kills stunned the Aggies' three consecutive points and put UNH up 22-18.
The Aggies fought hard with a 5-3 run but it was not enough all thanks to a Kaufmann and Serbousek block, then two Serbousek kills to finish the set at 25-23.

Set 4

Set four was the closest so far with six ties and six lead changes.
Serbousek got the 'Cats going with a kill and an ace. The Aggies responded with four unanswered points to go up 4-2.
UNH would not go away as they fought back six straight points of their own. Hohnbaum knocked down three kills and the Wildcats took advantage of three Texas A&M attack errors to go up 8-4.
The score was tied up at 10 after a 6-2 run from the Aggies.
There were ties at 11, 12, and 13 but UNH finally took a two-point lead at 15-13 after two attack errors from the Aggies. Four more Texas A&M errors and a kill from Hohnbaum put the 'Cats up 20-16.
Serbousek tallied three more kills to help the Wildcats tie the match at two with a 25-22 set win.

Set 5

Shattles began the final set with an ace which sparked a 6-2 run from UNH.
UNH remained strong with an 8-7 run that set them up with a match point.
- Serbousek recorded three kills to set the 'Cats up.
Texas A&M pulled off a seven consecutive-point comeback to win the set 16-14 and the match 3-2.
